Comet are replacing my tv under warranty. The picture has a number of vertical bands across the the full width of the screen, one particularly noticable. In adition, the slightest lateral on-screen movement causes the fleeting glimpse of horizontal back lines around the object that's moving. Not the halo effect btw, I see that too occasionally, but it rarely bothers me. I only noticed this new glitch at the weekend, after the Comet dude agreed to replace it. Is it realy getting worse? Will the new one be better.

Someone reassure me I made the right choice.

The replacement should not have the problems you describe.
It may have other problems because none of today's all singing all dancing CRTs are perfect. It's a balance between accepting what you have or opting to replace, hoping for better.
You've done the right thing in your circumstance.
Whatever CRT you buy it will not be beyond criticism, the PW9607 is much better than most.
Hope your happier with the new one, if it's still not acceptable, reject it on delivery. One of the slight drawbacks with buying sets these days is that unless you buy from a store with on-site service specialists for that brand, instead of optimising the set supplied, they do a swap out each time. Insist on a new set in a sealed carton to avoid having someone else's rejected tv.

I've said before that too many people get a bad "set", and then believe they have a bad "model". You have made the right choice - rest assured - once you get a decently performing set. They all have some drawbacks but overall this is the best picture on a 36" CRT and good sound to boot. I caught a quick bit of Celtic v Ajax on Sky sports last night and the detail and overall picture quality was superb (football was crap). I will keep this set for 24 months probably to allow plasma technology to "get there" then goodbye to CRT. But FTTB the 9607 will do me just fine.

Good luck with the new set.

Box was sealed before delivery, and all the bits in the expected bags.

I felt a bit sorry for the delivery guys. These tvs weigh a tonne and when they were removing the returning tv from the stand they dropped it face first onto the floor. It now has three 1 foot long scratches down the centre of the screen.

I'll have a test of its performance later/ Hopefully it's glitch free.

It is much better, although I can see a couple of vertical bands on black backgrounds, but only when I really really look hard for them. It may improve when I get a set up disk to help. The dark corners are much improved too. I'll give it a week to make a final decision, but it looks like it'll stay.
