    Hi Gang,

According to my missus I have an SVS 20-39Pci waiting for me at home  She said 'it's a bit tall' :D

    Here's the schedule for info...

Placed order on 29th Dec 2004
Got shipping quote from Erik on 30th December
Notification of shipping on 3rd Jan 2005 :smashin:
BAX tracking showed it arrived at Birmingham 8am Thurs 6th Jan
Call from BAX the same afternoon confirming that I was a private individual and that it would be submitted to customs for clearing.
Call from BAX the next day arranging delivery for 10th (today!)

    Costs were $165 door-door shipping
    $599 for the 20-39PCi
£90.18 to BAX for the VAT, import duty etc...

Converted at $1.88 per £ it's cost me a shade under 500 quid.

I might post back later after i've played with it!

Oh BTW the delivery guy said he had another one on the van for someone in Tamworth too, so someone else has a new toy today also!

    Cheers,
    Ben

Delivery guy knows me quite well as he has delivered four to me so far and he remembers me as he is into subwoofers (car variety) himself. This time the other one isn't for me though.

P.P.S Do you pay the VAT at the door or is it a bill?

You can pay over the phone(credit/debit card) or the driver cash/cheque.

There's a surcharge if you pay Bax by credit card though.

Ok had a quick play with it tonight....

It's in my unfinished 'soon to be' cinema room that's currently just brick walls and bare ceiling beams etc, got no BFD or SPL meter yet, so obviously I don't yet expect the setup to reach it's full potential.
But even so, sounds great with music, nice clean bass lines that I couldn't really hear the detail of before (I love that Monsters Inc jazz intro).

But then on to Saving Private Ryan - holy cow batman, it's almost as if the explosions are going off right in the room! Theres some serious low end power there, super vibrations straight through the solid concrete floor.

Ah well enough waffling, you get the idea, just can't wait to get the room sorted and done out so I can calibrate the thing (and my PJ) properly!

Betamac we paid the delivery guy with a cheque when he arrived. It might not be impossible that you get it on Friday, perhaps if you ring BAX and try to chivvy them along as soon as you know it's arrived they might speed it up a bit, who knows..?
    Cheers,
    Ben.

Well I would imagine that you'll feel a lot more of the low end sound vibrations transmitted through the floor to your seats etc, but hey I'm no expert on these things!

    Cheers,
    Ben.

Well i rang them today and chased it up and he took the details over the phone (about private importer etc) and said he would see it through customs, would not say when it would be delivered though

The tracking info says In Transit from heathrow Airport, so whether than means its coming from heathrow to my door or its got anouther stop to make i am not sure

same happened to me, it was 3 days after it landed and i hadnt heard anything, so i rang bax and they said they would put it through customs and about 2 hours later they rang me back to arrange delivery the next day. give them a call if you havent heard anything mate...i would think heathrow is a busy airport so will take a bit longer than here. and ignore the tracking info, its pants :)

I hate to tell you this, but there's a chance that if you'd rung yesterday it would have been delivered today. I rang them yesterday, as my PCU flew in yesterday morning, said it was private individual, they processed it through customs rang me up in the afternoon. Paid via debit card the taxed. Got delivered this morning at 9:30am :)

only tried minority report and darla  Have to run it in this weekend.

Not bad considering it only shipped on Monday.

Overall PCU has cost in the region of 900 ukp, including taxes and import.

Shame I didn't order beginning of December, when the dollar was weaker than it currently is, would have saved 50ukp or so, ah well.

I think we could all learn something about camouflage from betamac.

Well received my SPL from keene (great fast service)

Just followed the instructions in the SVS Manual (EG All Speakers at 70DB) and Sub 2-3DB Higher

And i am amazed at the difference it has made, the system has never been so good, it seems to be so much more balanced,

The sub blends in perfectly, Not sure about all the frequency sweeps people talk about on here but i am well happy with the performance from the simple SPL setup

    Just wondering

After you have setup all the speakers to 75DB and the Sub to about 78DB at that volume (0DB on the AMP as i used that as the easy to remember number)

Its LOUD, playing that Finding Nemo Scene "Darla" sounds like an earthquake (dont get me wrong sounds amazing) but i am not sure i would listen to it at that volume all the way through as i would have the neighbours calling the police lol

Does everyone else listen to there DVDs at 75DB?

I do not think many people regularly listen at reference level, it is just used to set your equipment up so that it is balanced correctly.
Once you have it calibrated just use a volume level comfortable to you.
