I have an old video clip, only 30 seconds long, but the first ever of my wife, taken in about 2001 on an analogue camcorder.

According to MediaInfo its file type is MWV1, which is an Aware Motion Wavelets format developed by Aware Software, who no longer support it.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon searching the internet for the codec needed to run the clip, without success. The codec may be a file called icmw_32.dll, which I saw on some potentially dodgy Russian websites, so I left well alone.

    Can anyone help please?

I've had a quick search and think I probably found the same websites you did suggesting the same .dll file. So without spending too much time on this I could not find anything else to enable playback of the file so you may have to take a chance and install thee .dll

Just to wrap this up - found I still have the original tape so I'm able to save the relevant clip in a more common format- result!

Thanks to @MarkE19 and to @Music Fan for your responses
