Not sure if mentioned but we were sent pics of the special packaging that MVC are doing for the star wars dvd trilogy, hard to explain without a picture but basically its a like a cigarette box with the lid coming off, the set drops down inside the box from the top and the lid pops on, its black with silver writing, its the same type of card as indiana jones boxset so quite hard, looks good, try instore for pics, if they have it displayed, hope this makes sense, i'll try and see if i can get a pic and upload it?

its not mentioned on their site anywhere. I woud like special packaging but am reluctant to cancel my amazon order without being sure I would get the box u have mentioned? Do u know if their online store is going to do it?
The website is selling it for £26.99 like amazon.

However I rang the stoire and he mentioned something about different packaging (but he wasnt sure what) and he said yes u get the top trumps but he said in store it was £34.99.

Anyone get any more info let me know

Hi, yeah the top trumps cards are an instore thing, the price at the moment is £34.99 on our systems but it should be coming down, althou not sure to what price hopefully £26.99 but it may not be, but most of the time the prices are the same, check closer to the release date, the design if the box is nice, hopefully we will be sent some posters showing this to display instore at the moment its just a A4 colour sheet, which i've stuck to the counter for peeps to see, i'll try and find out if the box is going to be available online as well as instore.

I don't think it will be released in a 4:3 only set over here, very few films have had dual ratio releases (I can only think of 3).

I saw the HMV Gold Packaging and it just doesnt look right, the SE VHS releases were in Gold for Fullscreen and Silver for Widescreen and considering the R1 release are the same, releasing the Widescreen set over here in Silver made sense, Gold just doesnt look right.

The MVC packaging looks very nice though so I gave my local MVC a ring and they said they dont have a price yet but it will be between £26.99 and £36.99 but they belived it would be closer to £26.99 so I pre-ordered it over the phone, they said they usually ask for a pound but not to worry lol

I phoned up my local MVC (Walsall) & they have reserved one for me priced at £34.99. Will I have to pay that or the new price?

Guess it depends how much they sell it for on the day, if local shops like Woolworths or WH Smiths sell it for £29.99 I would hope MVC would try and price match but incase my local MVC doesnt I will be taking along some old DVDs and PS2 games I dont want anymore and see how much they will give me in part exchange towards the set.

If you have paid a higher amount when pre-ordering you will get it at the £32.99 price, you will get the £2 back. In terms of a lower price, it seems stores are staying above the £30 mark, HMV yesterday had it at £34.99, at this rate i dont think it will go any lower then £32.99

HMV said that they will be releasing a gold box version and the standard platinum box set. Both are in widescreen and that there will be no 4:3 (aka pan & scan) versions released over here. Personally I feel the silver coloured box looks better imo.

MVC are selling the box seperately for £9.99
I bought the full set for £32.99 and must say that I
think it is worth it for the price I paid.
Whether it's worth spending £9.99 on the box alone
will probably depend on how big a Star Wars fan you are.
The quality of the box itself is good. Very tough cardboard
with no visable seams. Excellent for protecting the flimsy
    packaging of the boxset imo.

Did you pre book your set, or just go in to collect it?

Just went in and bought it.
There were loads left but the guy who served me said that they wouldn't be receiving any more of the boxes once they sold out.
I was also given a pack of 5 Top Trump star wars cards which were no use
to me. Anyone interested in buying them? ;)

Do you only get the cards if you're a MVC member? Just i got mine from the MVC in London Bridge (too early for the Anthony Daniel signings) and the guy in front got them but i didnt. Its only your post just now that reminded me, totally forgot when the shop assisstant handed me the goods!

Oh and the MVC cardboard outer box IS much better than the one it came with. Bit of a hassle for getting in and out of regularly, but great for storage!

I thought you only got the cards if you pre-ordered the set but could be wrong.
