    This is just stupid.

Panned over pork takeaway | The Sun |News

If they dont want pork on the pizza then dont ask for it...Anyone agree?

This would never happen in anywhere else in the world. Why are we so liberal that we let this happen?

Personally I prefer Pizza Hut, Pizza Express and my local Pizza place to Dominos, doing things like this isn't going to do them any favours either.

Still use dominos sometimes because of the delivery and they do have good range of choice of toppings... I hope they don't do it here

I agree its a disgrace the residents of Hall Green, Birmingham are forced to have to drive to an alternative branch an unreasonable 2 miles away from their usual haunt (less or more dependent on original departure location) for their favoured variety of generic American overly doughy bland pizza. Even worse that they might have to go to an alternative Pizza vendor which are hard to come by in Birmingham

My point is this: If this was (may end up being...) a muslim country the pork would actually be banned and be made illegal.

Do we want our country to end up under Sharia law? I certainly dont and I feel this sends out the wrong signals. This would NEVER happen in Saudi Arabia would it -

Like I said if they dont want pork on their pizza dont order it.

    Agree fully.

If you dont like something in a restaurant you dont fight to get it out.
You don't see places refusing to sell meat because of vegetarians.
Why should it be any different for members of certain religions.

I quote from the highly regarded Sun:

A spokesman for Domino's, who recently announced profits were up 33 per cent, said: "In that particular area of Birmingham there are a large number of Muslims so there is naturally more of a demand for halal based products.

Seems like an excellent business decision. I would readily order a pizza with spicy halal meat, and I assume that they will now serve a great many more muslim customers.
So hats off to Domino's for putting business first and increasing their potential customer base as a result.

    Phil

Although give me Pizza Express any day.

As over sensationalist as the topic title is, I do agree with the point to a degree...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with offering halal as an option, but why kick out all non halal options? If a branch were to drop all non veggie options I'm sure there would also be complaints, same as if they dropped all meat options... This is another option that really shouldn't be limited... Surely it will only hurt that branch in the longer term?

Surely an 'excellent business decision' is to reach as many customers as you possibly can? Why exclude ANY group?

I presume stocking two types of products, halal and non hala, would give problems.
I am sure they will have done their sums and concluded that this was best for Domino's. What other reason would you suggest?

Don't be daft...do you even know what halal is? Halal chicken is chicken, halal beef tastes like beef... it's the same stuff, it's just how it was killed and dealt with (someone correct me if I'm wrong!) that makes it different. Halal meat is quite perfectly compatible with my own body chemistry thank you.

What other reason? Some cheap publicity perhaps?

Yes, it is useful to Muslims in the area and Domino's business, but what about the non-Muslims living in the area?
    They shouldn't cut them off.

At first I was pretty disgusted by this but then I thought a little more.

Firstly, it's not a domino's thing, just an individual shop.

Now I may be wrong but I think that dominos are franchiesed and if so then I support the owner's right to run his business to make the most profit.

If he feels that doing this will be financially beneficial then good luck to him.

The only slight problem I have is that it is still be sold under the recognisable Domino's brand - which means that customers not familar with the owner's approach arrive with an expectation of what they can buy.

But I guess there are plenty of alternatives.

It would be interesting to see how long it lasts, because he will almost certainly lose most of his non-muslim trade - not necessarily through racism but because of uncertainty of what halal is and not being adventurous enough to try it - I'm not convinced I would.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

The concern would be the possibility of cross contamination between the halal meat and none halal. If there is any risk of it being mixed in any way then muslims wouldn't eat it so for it to work it has to be a case of all or nothing.

Halal meat is still meat. It tastes the same (and sometimes better) so why should anyone be excluded? You can still eat it even if you aren't muslim. Does the Sun take up arms when retailers offer Kosher products in Golders Green? Nope? Thought not.

What's the fuss? It's a purely business decision.

But surely that's a matter of the shop owner doing their job properly, and having open and isable work areas, seperate work areas, staff washing hands etc... I'm quite sure there is more than one pizza oen in a branch of dominos!

Anyway, it's the shop owners own choice obviously, but I'm pretty sure that if you revisit in 6 months, things may have changed...
