I've seen a few musicals in the West End but want to know what other people would recommend?

In the last week I've seen Shrek & Ghost. Shrek was average at best IMO but Ghost was SUPERB! I like musicals that has enjoyable music. Top 3 I've seen so far are:

    1) The Lion King
    2) Billy Elliot
    3) Ghost

Heard good things about Les Mis & Wicked.

So, what would you guys recommend going to see?

We Will Rock You. :) Saw it just before Christmas and it was fantastic - especially if you like Queen's music.

Wicked :smashin: the only downside is the end of the first act before the intermission is so awesome you wonder how the final ending will be able to compete and imo at least it didn't.

The story was seriously cheesy and silly but we really enjoyed it too

My dad recently saw Jersey Boys on Broadway and he was blown away by it. Not normally his sort of thing either but he raved about it.

+1 for Wicked - very good.

I have seen some others but it was years ago (Phantom, Dirty Dancing), all pretty very good. I think you will find most of the big ones are very well done and enjoyable. I have heard from friends that Avenue Q is absolutely brilliant, though probably a long way from the Lion King!

Ad a rule I hate musicals. Saw Chicago in London a fee years ago and the scantily clad ladies made it bearable.

Saw Wicked in New York last month and it was good. Still not too fussed on the singing but overall it was good fun.

Indeed, the story was ridiculous but it was still really enjoyable. Also, the whole time I was watching it I was trying to figure out who the Commander character was - he looked really familiar to me. Turned out it was that Rhydian guy from X factor a few years back, the one who sang like an opera singer.

I enjoyed the varying quality of the links into the Queen songs. Sometimes the theme/dialogue would lead nicely into one, and sometimes they would just go (made up example) 'oh look, some girls with fat bottoms!' or something equally 'we couldn't be bothered' tenuous :)

Hadn't really heard much about Avenue Q before. Will have to look into it now.

Would highly recommend The Lion King to anyone who hasn't seen it and enjoys a musical. Been to see it three times myself within the space of a year!

Quite a bit of the soundtrack from Ghost here:

Ghost the Musical, Original Cast Recording -...

The whole story was really well told and some of the stage effects used were really clever too. Bit of a girly love story but I really did enjoy it.

Edit - That youtube link should be a playlist..

Jersey boys was brilliant, Id go and see it again definitely. Ive read that the London cast is the best.
Great storyline and the quality of the singing and music was fantastic.

Blood Brothers. Funny and touching. The sort of musical where everyone gets something different from. I saw in London, not sure what the touring show is like but the songs and writing are solid enough to withstand almost any production, methinks.

    Been to see loads.
Really don't like 'cynical' musicals like mamma Mia or we will rock you, where a bands songs are tenuously linked by a crap story.
Just save the story and sing the songs, if that's the case.
I've seen loads of others, many of which mentioned here.
The best I've seen is Mary Poppins, really enjoyed that immensely.

There is a reason why both Les Mis & Phantom have reached 25 years and still going.
