For me cRAP,& Country !
Cant stand it - the irony for me is that it lacks soul and is boring, bland, unemotive drivel.
I have to have exceptionally loud guitar!
I absolutely despise Abba for some reason. Everything about them just gets my goat!
I would tend to agree with Pete about exceptionally loud guitar although I often listen quite quietly these days.
Natasha Bedingfield is doing my head in particularly at the minute !!
And also realy hate EuroPop - you know the kinda stuff Germans and tourists listen to over the summer. They tend to take a good original song and speed it up and put a beat over the top of it. I lost all faith in music when I heard the Eagles' Hotel California done this way.
As long as we differentiate New Soul from the original 60's and 70's versions, I do agree with the Cap. Modern "soul" seems to have been named in an ironic fashion. Most Rap music leaves me cold (although there is no pattern for the stuff that doesn't) and of course Garage music is an abomination.
Dido is a bit wrist-slashing too.
And the whole reality TV show 'music' is really bad - I mean G4 - come on!! The way that the dumb masses are made to believe that they actually like this type of music because its on the TV and must be good.
Moby i chuffing hate the little turd
Who let the dogs out................
Chris De eyebrows Lady in Red...........aaaaggghhhhhhhh
Apart from U2, its not the genre (not sure I really mean genre, sounds too much like something that you would indicate with quotation marks, but you know what I mean) its individual songs:
Most things Mob/Football inspired get on my nerves, Elton Johns re-working of his own great song 'Candle in the wind'.
Better explain the U2 comment:
Its the whole Oyrish thing, people doting on each and every wonderful album they nicked loads of other peoples music and did a bit of altering and then they are praised for 're-inventing themselves' and those bloody sunglasses............thats for people who want to hide their true feelings, like "Oy hope dey dont cotton on ter de way we are knicking on old A-Ha song".
I like a lot of what U2 did, I had the first album when they were nothing more than a glint in America's coffers, they did so mighty fine songs, but they just are'nt the almighty best band in the world.
any pop, RNB, rap, Ska, actually just about anything that isnt metal or similar!
Agreed the first 2 albums were after them though it all started to go wrong imo and Bono is now so far up his own ass it's untrue
I suspect that Jim Carney was/is taking about genres, and not individual bands.
I mean, everyone hates U2...
For me, it's AOR stadium rock (yes, including U2).
Yep, Queen, Tina Turner, the lot of 'em. Complete toss, for people who know what the word music means, but don't know what music IS.
And I am talking about bands who in fact maybe be quite talented, but have, for one reason or another, decided to write music that only sounds 'good' (haha) when played to a zillion people with lit cig lighters held aloft...
i don't mean to decry bands who play in arenas, just bands who write arena music. It's rubbish. All of it.
'We will, we will rock you''
I'm sure you will - good luck to Paul Rodgers, I'm sure you'll make a whole lotta dosh singing this tripe!!
Contentious post, here we come...
Country & Western, yeee haaarrrrrrr. Makes me want to pull my Colt 45 and shoot someone.
the streets and daniel o'donnell
C&W, Rap, R&B, 80s electro pap and the utter pits of musical hell, Dance.
Individuals? Phil Collins, Madonna, Boy George. All for crimes against music and good taste.
Agree with Tons actually. Al Green is essential listening from time to time, especially when entertaining the ladies. modern soul = crap and there are too many channels on SKY in between good channels such as VH2 and MTV2.
Why are so many people against C&W? It's the Caucasians Blues.
I don't deny there is some terrible stuff out there (Billy Ray Cyrus, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain....although with a bod like hers )but there are also some fantastic songs/singer/songwriters (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, The Dixie Chicks). Just as there are some good and bad in most other styles of music, exceptions to the rule being dancey-acidy-garagey-trancey-jungley type stuff. If you want really bad stuff you've got U2 and The Beatles(not all but most of their output was pants).
cRAP, Eminem (or enema)
your in a world of hurt with that Dance comment you old...
Ive mellowed with Phil though............only out of respect for his skill as a drummer, however he should hang for his crimes against musical taste and his knack of aquiring huge tracts of pine forests that have destroyed natural areas of Scotland or so the rumour goes.
Madonna, I cant really hate her for anything really and I quite like 'Like a Prayer'. Cant help wondering what it would be like you know what I mean.........
Boy George, seems like a nice boy...................
Only on the Internet, eh chaps?
On the topic of the thread, I think it is incredibly narrow minded to sweepingly dismiss entire genres. I don't think there's a single musical genre where I haven't heard something worthwhile.
Just remember Sturgeon's Law - 90% of everything is crap. That still leaves good stuff to find.
(Tweaked for the early 21stCentury that's looking more like 99%... )
More I think about it, this type of thread is a bit pointless due to peoples taste. U2 have taken a fair slagging but I like them. I have slagged Eminem but others like him. Some people think U2 are best band in world, others will think Oasis, or REM or Coldplay or Killers or Radiohead or G4 or Girls Aloud.
You get my point.
Basically if you don't like U2 then don't listen to them. I don't like Eminem and can't get the radio turned over quick enough when he comes on, but if others love him then fair play to them.
This is the sort of post that could run for years.
I despise the way R & B has permeated mainstream pop. Just hold a damn note instead of warbling
Crap UK indie bands with sh'ite haircuts, 70's retro fashions and whingey lyrics also get up my crevice.
Poodle perm, power rock ballads are a crime. Those spandex wearing, big haired botox injected fools, need to grasp the concept that old people with long hair look pathetic.
Face it, music peaked with the Dead Kennedys
..Anything from the beaches of Spain..
The Smiths.... that voice just grates. It's like chalk on a blackboard to me.
May be I should have posted which genre of music would you not buy?
Any R&B pop
Had exactly the same effect on me. Also any song with kids on it....Grandma we love you...Pink Floyd the wall.....also any fink with a cocky cockney on it.
Then lucky you. I haven't heard one single track of the myriad 'dance toons' I've been forced to hear, that does anything for me besides produce the urge to barf! And yes it is 'forced' as danceheads are forever trying to convince you that their 'banging toons' are ace. Blaring out of their cars (see guide to all things Chav), at work (workmates of mine always insisted on driving us all spare with their dance albums when were doing OT) and when you visit young relatives. My oldest nephew, great lad, crap taste in music!
In MY opinion, which is what this thread is all about, our opinions, is it not, dance is total BS in toto. So there!
Being olds got f all to do with it. My daughter hates dance muzak with a passion and shes 14!
Have to agree, the Smiths I hate, obvioulsy Britney, Christina and all that ilk, the crap R&B/Rap concoction thats neither here nor there.
Real rap can be brilliant, but the chart friendly stuff gives it a bad reputation (I don't listen to much of it as a rule).
Also charlotte church, and that fat welsh bloke, their music rides my t@ts big style. Absolutely crap. Again good classical singing is wonderful, but the mass produced tripe that is pedalled is awful.
Every genre has those who do it properly anf those who climb on the coat-tails and ruin it.
Those who are exemplars in each genre are easily recognisable when you hear a quality track. You may not like it, but its easy to appreciate the quality of it.
