Im looking to film music videos.
Firstly for youtube and other websites but need to be good enough quality for tv broadcast.

    I'm looking at:

    Sony HVR-Z1E - £3300
    Sony HVR-Z5E - £2900
    Sony HVR-HD1000E - £1000
    Sony HDR-FX7 - £2400

    but also:

    Panasonic HDC-SD9EB-S HD Camcorder - £350
    Sony HDR-SR12E - £700

obviously the prices are quite a wide range but i really need to know what cameras are good enough and if paying extra is going to make a huge difference. Sound is of no importance as all videos are edited and dubbed.

    Many thanks in advance.

The consumer camcorders you've listed (and indeed all other AVCHD camcorders) are not suitable for broadcast: regardless of resolution, the chroma subsampling employed is simply not up to spec (nor is the dynamic range, the signal to noise ratio, etc.) and the resulting video is likely to be rejected by any network you approach. Networks use specialised equipment to QC supplied materials - it might look good to your eye, but it won't to a vectorscope and waveform monitor.

Owning a FX-7 AND SR-12 i can tell you with an external mike the SR-12 has every bit a pq sound and low light ability.
A SR-12 USER August can confirm its ability on this page

by the way the FX -7 can be bought for a lot less than you mention including
http://bentonvillemall.co.uk/acatalog/Sony_FX7E.html simply electrics are even cheaper but enough said there, http://www.ciao.co.uk/Sony_HVR_HD1000E__6822464 this one is only a hc1 in a large shell.good luck with what ever you get.

    Honestly,
    Get the Z1:D
It is the " most likely to succeed" and is not the costliest for nothing
It is not considered a consumer camera

like to know why you think the 1 is better than the 5
    HVR-Z5 PAL* Sony HDV Camcorder HVR-Z5P , HVR-Z5E
    http://www.myshopping.com.au/SP--12831_Sony_HVR_Z1_Handycam_Video_Camera
the z1 is admitedly a very good if you like these giants but generaly all i have read from z1 users moving to the z5 or even the fx100 [fx1000 admitedly prosumer] say the later outperform the z1 including low light.

I dont think the Z1 is " better" as such .
The Z1s ability to shoot NTSC and PAL( out of the box) and its use of CCD rather than CMOS seem to endear it more to the " Pros" other wise the Z5 is rather more " modern" and costs less
