How's the quality of the SACD/CD side of things for the Denon A1-XV compared to a Marantz DV9500 or the Denon 3910?

It can't be worse than the 3910, I took 2 back as I thought there must have been a faulty batch, no soundstage and very shut in.

That was using the digital out too.

So I realised, funny thing is, listen to the 1910 or whatever it is called against the 3910, 100x better!

Sounds like it's better to keep my SA17 and invest on the Pioneer 989 or the 3910... or 2910?

    Yeah definitely.

I was looking for an all in one unit to do both jobs, but in the end went back to a Meridian 500MKII transport and a Philips 963SA for films.

Quite agree with monotone or giz - unless youre prepared to really spend. A meridian G98 or G91 will give very fine CD quality (though it doesnt do SACD) in addition to wonderful picture. At a similar price the Townshend machine does both SACD and DVDA and sounds sublime. But when youre spending this amount of money, wouldnt you be better saving for a uvem..........

After spending quite a bit on the Marantz SA12 - and disappointed... I'm more careful abt my next purchase.... am taking my time to hunt down a DVD player. Initially was looking into the Marantz 9500, but was told audio side is similar to the SA12... my SA17 actually sounds better than the SA12, so getting the 9500 was not a gd move

It still seems like getting separate components are way better off than a universal player afterall... and saves me the trouble of swtiching video off the maximise the SACD quality!

Still toying with the idea of a mac mini, or pioneer 989 (or the discounted 969), or denon 3910... suggestions?
