Anchor Bay R1 have kindly released this often overlooked classic.

If you've seen "From Hell" then watch this and consider the word plagerism (bet I spelt that wrong).

Anchor Bay also have a "Sweeney" movie double disc coming out in early February and Liam Neeson in the rather good "Big Man" with seom excellent bare knuckle fights (released under the US title of "Crossing the line").

Back to MBD, Plummer & Mason's Holmes and Watson are extremely good. Next to "The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes", this is one of the best screen portayal of the great detective.

A shame whoever holds the rights hasn't seen fit to release the Granada Sherlock Holmes series, starring Jeremy Brett, here.

They are trickling through across the pond, but it doesn't appear as though any remastering has gone on - a shame, it deserves better.

I agree this is an interesting film, that was ripped off by From Hell. But it is stretching it a little having Plummer and Mason playing characters who were supposed to be in their late twenties:rolleyes:

Indeed, I'd happily buy a decent quality DVD box set of the lot, if it were available. (Granada series).

Brett was the best Holmes. Chris Lee and Charles Gray were both splendid Mycroft's as well.

You shouldn't squash a fellows pea. It's just not on.

Hopefully my MBD shouldn't take long on it's flight across the pond.
