Only the greatest ever Christmas film, ever! I was looking to see if it was on the telly box this Christmas, and it is (Ch4, 24th, 6.30PM), but then I thought I may as well just get it on BR, but Amazon want £26 for it, for what looks like an import. Was it never released in the UK on BR?

My friend was after this and he was unaware of the boxset so has paid £21 from ebay for the US edition but from looking into this title it seems the missing song is not included on any region discs bar the US dvd so the 2 disc sets from the US don't include the missing song on the Bluray either.
It sounds like the song was edited before theatrical release so only forms part of an "extended" edition so it's not cut in the usual sense

The song was removed because some Disney exec objected that it was too much of a downer for a family film. It was in the original cinema release and on the original VHS releases. So it's definitely a cut in the accepted sense.

You can actually still hear the song in the closing credits.

According to Rewind all the Bluray releases contain the "theatrical version" with "no cuts" which doesn't include the song. Maybe it was on the VHS edition.
If an exec has a problem with something its unlikely it would get to appear at all judging from the mess that Disney are in and have been for several years regarding home video

    Rewind:

    CUTS:
    • Blu-ray ALL America- Disney - No cuts - "Theatrical Cut" (85:37)

Yes, my mistake, it was removed for the original theatrical release but then reinstated for the early VHS release. It was again removed for the UK DVD and BR release, but was included in the US pan and scan second disc on early US DVD releases, but again ommited for 25th anniversary re-releases and BR releases. Altogether a strange history, and ranks up there with the butchery done to Tom & Jerry.

To be fair, the butchery of Tom and Jerry has been slowly happening for political correctness reasons since the 70's at least and the Bluray Volume 1 does include complete uncut versions of the toons that are on it but the PC decision to keep 2 toons from Volume 2 lead to Warners scrapping it altogether after the backlash from fans but I do expect it to appear someday.
If you get the US Spotlight dvd's and some of the UK dvd's you can get a complete uncut set that way although I can't recall which ones are messed about with or missng in each region

No the bonus dvd included with one of the US Bluray editions also includes the extended version although Itunes might be its only appearance in HD (assuming it is HD)

When Love is Gone was also included on the NTSC Laserdisc. In fact that was the only way to own a widescreen copy of that version of the film. It's such a silly omission as the closing song (When Love is Found) that is still in the film is a direct and dramatically vital callback to the deleted piece. It's Caine's most emotional scene too. Bah humbug!
