Yes, it's the new Magnum Ecuador Dark one.

I did think about it, but after I had melted it with a desk lamp, and then had it sat around for an hour or so while I took different photo's including out side I decided not to eat it. Sorry

Great entry. Wow this is getting tough. I'm struggling to think of anything original like this.

I can see a couple of bluish tinted strips across the background which you might want to get rid of before printing, but they're not easily seen on the screen.

Lovely texture. I'm not sure about the stark white background - surely that's quite harsh? You've also got some harsh flecks of highlights round the front. How did you light this? I think it needed a tad more attention paid in this regard.

The background it actually the sky, that's why you can see the blue strips across the background.

I had trouble with the background. I wanted just the Ice Cream and nothing else (like you quite often see in product shots). I tried putting up a white background (a T-shirt) but that showed the pattern of the fibers too much. I then tried outside and tried to get a natural background (table, wall etc) but that distracted from the Ice Cream. In the end I put it on a wall and crouched down and took this looking upwards. To begin with because of all the white the Ice Cream was too dark, so I decided to use the flash to light it. I did see the couple of highlights, but I forgot to take them out.

Maybe I need something like the Maplin Softbox http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=38260&criteria=BENK%20soft lighting&doy=20m4 I think Tobers used one on the Show us your Bluebells. What colour backgrounds does it come with Tobers.

    Hi,

I have the Maplin Portable Lighting Studio as well so can answer your question. It comes with 3 white sides to diffuse the light. It has a black base but comes with a cloth, that can cover a couple of the sides, which is reversible (Blue and grey).

I also bought a 50 pack of various coloured card (A3) which I have used as backgrounds.

It's good fun playing around with it - my entry was taken using one.

    Cheers.

Yes - I'm not suprised that this entry was taken with an onboard flash. I think a softbox would have made this a lot better - as it is you've got the detail, the interest, the texture and the exposure and DoF, but you just don't have that crucial quality of light to really fit the theme. A fine effort, but I think this month's competition is going to be decided by such things!

Looks like you're going shopping :p
