and largely replaces it.

The static versions are manual only in Excel (or compatibles) or .html format (viewable in a browser).

Single Cable Working, locate which band (col 5) your first recording is in.

Second recording must be from same band. Third viewed content depends on which channels you are recording (cols 1-4).

Dual Cable - no restriction on second recording.

First two recordings from same transponder, any 3rd channel viewable and time shiftable. If from different transponders 3rd channel viewing is same as one cable - See note re G2 models.

The other file is an automated macro driven version for Windows genuine versions of Excel. Set up the transponders your post code uses for the yellow marked channels (tune to the channel on a Foxsat-hdr and press opt+ on a Foxsat-hdr, using a HDR-1000s you will have to look up what your local versions are using (King Of Sat for instance). Save the edits before clicling on the command buttons.

If both from same transponder then any other channel in band is viewable and time shiftable.

If different transponders you can watch only any 3rd channel sharing a transponder with either recording.

NOTE The hdr1000/1010S have some extra capability

1 You can live pause any third channel you can watch
2 After one of the two recordings finishes you can record any 3rd programme you are watching live (it must still be current), and from the beginning by simply pressing the record button.

I will post when updates are available in this thread (effectively forming a freesat change log) .

NOTE The complete update history is detailed on a separate worksheet in the FoxsatRecordCheck011.xls file

Thanks for the info guys. Really useful as I live in a block of flats where I can only have single cable operation.

Can anyone direct me to or provide some narrative as to how this bit of witchcraft works...?

When I used to run a satellite tuner card in a PC, I used to be able to record as many channels as I like from the same transponder, so I get that TP's carry multiple channels and I guess I understand that a device with a second tuner can tune a different TP and extract any other channels required from that.

Where my understanding runs out is with the "band blocks/polerisation" as shown in the charts - what's that about and why do both tuners have to be within the same block...?

Cheers, M.

Because it's not easily technically possible to fit all the frequencies used by a satellite on a coax downlead at once and because the microwave signals received by the lnb are too high in frequency to be carried on a coax cable anyway, the lnb has to down shift the frequency to a value that coax can handle. The total frequency band used is split into high and low band. The tuner adds a 22kHz ac tone to signal the lnb to downshift the high band channels, without the tone the low band channels are downshifted. Therefore frequency wise there are two combinations. Secondly to allow transponders close in frequency to each other not to interfere with each other adjacent transponders use differing polarisations - horizontal and vertical, the tuner switches the lnb by either sending dc power at 12 or 18V. There are then 4 possible combinations High Band-Horizontal, High Band-Vertical, Low Band-Horizontal, Low Band - Vertical.

Only 1 tuner can control the lnb - tuner 1 in the case of the Humax sat pvrs.

The other tuner can still access all the other channels in the same band and polarisation as tuner 1 has switched the lnb to receive.

Nominally then the second tuner would have around 25% of the total channels available. Freesat though has very few high band channels, as a result when tuner 1 is using a low band transponder the second tuner has approx. 45% of the total channel count available. Additionally the bbc regional SD channels have both horizontal and vertical variants. As a result if you are recording say a horizontal channel and your local bbc region at 101 is vertical then you can switch to recording an alternate bbc region that is also horizontal.

The third nice touch the Humax adds to this is that only 1 tuner is required if both recording channels are from the same transponder. This leaves the second tuner free to deliver any other channel for viewing, subject to the above frequency/polarisation restrictions.
