    Hi,

I'm installing 4 ceiling speakers which will all be the Voice of God Speaker in a 13.1 set-up. There are two 2-core speaker cables already in the ceiling.

So my question is - is it better to wire the 4 speakers as two pairs front and rear voice of gods or two pairs of left and right voice of god - or doesn't it make a difference?

Hope that makes sense, any thoughts much appreciated

    cheers

    Tony

My understanding is Auro-3D is based on height speakers mounted on the walls and there is only one overhead (voice of Dog) speaker. Putting in four would not give any panning left/right or front/back.

    Hi Tony
I misunderstood your intention and thought you may be thinking that four VOG speakers would behave like four ceiling speakers do for Atmos.

I just read page 24 and while they do say you can use multiple speakers in large rooms or rooms with low ceilings they should have clarified how they are connected and driven. Wiring two 8 Ohm speakers in series presents the amplifier with a 16 Ohm load while wiring them in parallel presents the amp with a 4 Ohm load.

Dolus - many thanks for your reply - after posting my initial question I realised that the ceiling speaker cable was 4 core and not 2 core so was able to wire up the 4 speakers individually

    cheers

    Hi Tony

As the VOG speaker is just one channel so just one amp, does that mean you have wired all four speakers to one set of speaker terminals. My gut feeling was that this is the same as wiring them in parallel.

I Googled this and strangely enough my gut feeling was right. This article explains this and shows different ways to wire four speakers. How to wire Four Speakers to One Amplifier - Geoff the Grey Geek

If you have wired them that way then it will present a load that the amp will not like. Four 8 ohm speakers in parallel presents the amp a 2 ohm load and four 4 ohm speakers will present a 1 ohm load.

Hi Dolus - I split the VOG preamp output into 4 separate power amp channel inputs and connected the speakers to the individual power amp channels :)

    Hi Tony
Woo-Hoo! Out of all the ways you could have done it that is probably the best way. I promise I will not question what you are doing again.
