I've been using the MadCatz 4-way box for ages with no difference in picture quality. You can have mine if you want for £5+p&p as i no longer need it. PM me if interested.

Make sure it's actually RGB wired - a few unscrupulous companies market cables / splitters as "RGB" but only wire them for composite over SCART.

Is that the Phillips one? I've just bought it and it's absolute rubbish, the picture is all out of focus.

I use the Argos one - does the job - no picture degridation & £9.75! 4 scarts which can all be set to RGB - need to use 1 to connect to TV and the other 3 are inputs for your consoles, sky, dvd, etc.

Sure this is the baby! You need an extra Scart lead - to connect from box to TV, but that's a good thing as the ones that come with lead attached usually have a poor quality lead from box to TV. It is RGB as well although it doesn't say on that page.

Are these really that good? The only multi scart that i have found which does not deterioate the picture is the Quattro+ and that cost me about £80.

Try the JoyTech AV Control Centre from Play at £40. It's a 4 way box that will take RGB SCART, SVideo, composite and stereo audio to a single output with no loss of quality. It's a powered unit with a remote control.

OK, I've just gone down to argos and bought 3 different units. I'll give them all a try and will report back later.

Lol! Going to take back the ones you don't want at the end?

Would be very good to see the results when you're done.

OK, it wasn't exactly scientific but I made sure all the common components were the same and tested each item. They were the £9.75 item mentioned above and also the chrome and black Hitachi item available for £14.99. I also had a third model but the idiots at Argos gave me the more expensive auto switching model, which did not have RGB, instead of the cheaper (by a tenner) manual model. No RGB - no thanks!

I was expecting to write a really indepth review but having tried both of them, I really couldn't tell the difference between the non-switched signal and the switched signal! Bear in mind that I only have a 28 inch Sony Wega though, and that the only source I used was my ageing Sky Pace Digibox.

The Hitachi may have given a less sharp picture but I can't be 100% sure, this could have been a consequence of the in-bult scart lead which connects the switcher to the TV. Since the cheaper model did not include such a lead, I used my expensive QED RGB only lead instead.

Colours and brightness level also seemed unaffected by the addition of the switchers. I didn;t test sound quality.

For value for money and build quality, the cheaper model wins hands down. It is made of metal and also has sockets for composite video plugs. It is very sturdy. It also allows the VCR to be routed to a different source by way of a switch. Its major pitfalls is the styling and its size, and also the fact that you have to have access to an extra lead to run the signal to the TV.

The Hitachi on the other hand is much more pleasing to look at, if a little lightwieght. Suction caps at the base allow you to plant the item securely on the equipment stand without fear of it falling off. Its construction is plastic but uses oxygen free copper cable!

Both items are good and in the end i Chose the £9.75 item. Your choice might be different depending on whether you have the spare scart cable or not.

As it hapens, I just took a look at the picture that was posted above and it is slightly different to the one i have. It shares the same argos part number, but is more angular in design with the switching buttons on the side (90 degrees to the scart sockets).

The one I have is the angular one but for some reason Argos have that pic of the other one on the site. The same pic was up when I got mine.

Do you have a link for that or is it a high street store? I'm after a couple - one for me, one for the inlaws. Would be seriously interested for a mere £3 if it is a reasonable picture (neither is going to be used on a decent telly).
