I have no experience of the xbox DVD controller so I am "going in blind here" as they, but, I read in a magaine recently that if you use the controller, the region will lock onto the first disc that you put in the player. What happens if you put a region 0 (ie Ultimate Platinum DVD) in as you first disc? Will this in effcect make your xbox a "region free" DVD player? Any ideas?
Hi, As far as I am aware the UK Xbox is locked to Region 2 and will also play Region 0, as per normal DVD players sold in the UK. It will not play any other region as standard, although I assume it can be 'hacked' as per other DVDs. Software is also region locked. There is a product coming to/in the market (DVD Region X, I think) that will get around this, as has been done on the PS2. My UK Xbox will only play region 2 and 0 discs. Cheers, JonathanN
Did you try a R1 disc first? This has to be the first disc you put into the machine using the DVD controller. If you used a R2 disc, then your xbox will be locked onto R2. There isn't the usual R2 mark (planet earth with number 2 over it) on my xbox. Interesting to see if anybody has convinced their player that it is R1.
Hi Jonathon I hope this product doesn't work like the ps2 version, where u have to put the program disk first and then dvd. I'd prefer to have the xbox made multiregion after installing DVD region X. I did contact them 2 months ago and would say anything about their product, just yet. Shaz
I don`t think its the first disc you play that sets the region, Its the device you plug into the front of the machine that tells it R1 or R2 !!
