Sorry – I bought my XS32 already multi-region; I don’t have any experience of companies that provide the service.

But I can tell you that making it region free only helps in allowing you to play prerecorded discs from other regions. It won’t help with any copy protection issues when recording.

Posting links to products which bypass copy protection is not allowed on the forum.

So, can I not record from Sky Sports? I think I have done! I have an XS34. I haven't tried recording from the movie channels though.

Are they copy protected?

I don't have Sky so I don't know... I've yet to hit any copy protection recording from Freeview, though it is possible to broadcast with copy protection. If/when that happens, making the recorder multi-region will have no effect. The original post implies that he/she has hit some copy protection, and hopes that making the recorder multi-region will solve it.

I regularly record from Sky Movies (not Box Office) and have copied to DVD without any copy protection issues, I don't subscribe to the Sports channels so can't comment on that.

I no longer have Sky Sports anymore but I have regularly recorded to Digital VHS. As far as I know I think it's only the pay per view movies that may have copy protection.

I was receiving a "The channel you are about to record is copy protected - Recording cancelled" screen when i tried to record sky sports 1 & also sky movies. I can't remember what i was attempting to record but i have yet to replicate the error so im at a loss now, and am able to copy sky sports & movies without any problem's.

I have a number of region 1 dvds and it would have been nice to be able to watch these in bed on the RDXS34 instead of being confined to the front room watching them on my pioneer.

In my original post i was not asking about anything that would infringe any copyright laws. I just thought it odd that i could not record sky, a service which costs me over £40 a month with the RDXS34.

I purchased all my dvd recorders already multiregion modified. Its cheaper to do it this way. To have my Panasonics modified after purchase would have cost a minimum of £20 each machine. That said - you can purchase a multiregion dvd PLAYER for under £30. See the Pricerunner UK website : http://***********/bhv4v
