MS to buy logitech rumor.

A rumor swirling about the bowels of the Internets says that Microsoft is about to launch a takeover bid for Swiss-based Logitech. If true, Microsoft, the largest software house in the world would become the world's largest maker of webcams, mice and other peripheral devices. Share prices are surging on speculation that Microsoft will make a takeover bid valued at 48 francs per share, a 38% premium over yesterday's closing price. Our take? We're pretty skeptical. Both companies have been extraordinarily successful without each other. And at first take, the union seems to offer neither company any advantage in the market. Perhaps the rumor mill confused Logitech with Japan's Logitec -- that would make perfect sense. Yeah

Well I've got Logitech speakers, joystick, gaming mouse, keyboard, headset, remote, old wireless xbox controller and iPod dock thanks to an uncle who used to work for them; they really make some good products, I would love to see some for the 360.

I doubt MS would take over the design of the products. It'll probably be more like the Dell purchase of Alienware. Logitech's a very successful business. I'm sure MS just want a piece of the financial pie.

Don't forget MS already make some very successful Hardware products ... some say their keyboard and mice are the best in the business, so as for MS ruining it, I can hardly see how ... if anything it will improve the hardware further.

Yea i agree if it turns out to be true i think logictech will run as normal but the profits will do in gates pocket. Might be a good thing. More products for use that might last

Microsoft have a long history of buying up competitors and running them into the ground, to give the big M a larger market share.

Also, in the past few months the old Sidewinder brand seems to have reappeared, the obvious competition for this brand is Logitech.

I hope Logitech remains independant, not because of the quality of their products, but their innovation, which could potentially be lost under new management, even if it is Microsoft.

If it's true, what happens with regards to the Japanese offshoot, Logicool who seem to have a relationship with Sony? If you look at most PS3 driving games, they carry Logicool's logo on the loading screen...

But what if Logitech were to manufacture the next generation of consoles? If they managed to get the same level of quality as they do with their peripherals it would be a good thing wouldn't it?

. some say their keyboard and mice are the best in the business

Ben

umm who say that?

its usually a given that the logitech mice are the best out there

but keyboards... maybe the microsoft keyboards are better -a lthough the logitech keyboards look nicer - i dont think they have the same responsiveness as say the comfort curve 2000 -(which i think is the one of the best keyboards on the market )

Well I hope the software side of the Logitech business gets better - my experience of the logitech products is reasonably ***** - if M$ purchased them - it would be a good acquisition I believe though and ever increase the portfolio of products!

I gues sthe only thing left for M$ to buy then would be a System Integrator - lets start a rumour of CSC or EDS being taken over! Ok joking aside you do wonder what the 10 year business plan is dont ya!
