    I am looking to set up a Home Cinema system in a 17' x 13' room with a Pioneer 720 DVD/HDD and possibly a Denon 1705 amp.

Please can someone suggest which are the best speakers to go for. I listen to CD's, music DVD's and movies.

I have shortlisted MS Premiere + v Tannoy FX5.1 v Canton CD1 as they fit my budget.

    Many thanks.

Decided I will go for those after reading other threads. Does anyone know the cheapest place to purchase them online.
    Thanks.

I am also looking at the Mordaunt Short Premiere Plus pack but cannot find it at a decent price. Where is the cheapest place to pickup this set?

If I cant find it cheap enough it looks like I might have to go for the old MS premiere pack with the 308 sub which I've heard isn't very good.
How bad is it actually? I am upgrading from a Videologic Digitheatre (which actually has a very good sub with it) to a separate amp (about £200 worth - Denon 1705 maybe) and speakers (budget about £300).

    Thanks

I found a shop that was selling the premiere plus for £300 in November. It was in London and dealt mainly with DJ equipment. The guy said he would not deliver, so you need to collect. I can't find the shop now despite a good googling, but it might be worth you having a dig. I remember that this was around £200 cheaper than the next cheapest. In the end I bought another make.

I have the 308 sub which isnt bad at all for the price. As long as you dont have the sub volume over half way, it stays very fast and tight, and goes quite low actually.

Having said this, the 309 will be better.

    Hi nash b,

Are you aware that the package this company are selling for £299, is the one with the 308 sub, not the 309.

I have just rang the company to find out whether they do the 309 sub on it's own - they sell the sub on it's own for £230, or the full Premiere Plus 'Avant' package for £500.

You can get the package with the 308 sub cheaper elsewhere. Hope you havent made a mistake. Sorry if i've put a downer on things, but you ought to know

    Thanks for that MS.

Yes I realised that and have NOT ordered yet. I am once again reconsidering what to do cos I also want to get rid of my old HIfi and get an integrated solution that lets me listen to music via cd and vinyl too.

Back to the drawing board mate!

Damn too good to be true. Looks like the normal Premiere system then.

Actually - I would consider getting separates but wouldnt want to pay more than £300 for all 5 speakers & the sub - does anyone know if its possible & what makes?

    Lancia34,

As you probably know, you will get a much better "full range" sound from either a bookshelf or floorstanding speaker. I have been down the satellite/sub route myself - had MS Premiere system, which dont get me wrong are excellent speakers, but all satellite speakers do loose midrange, which is a big factor when listening to music. When I upgraded to a full size MS setup, I was amazed at the difference. Big improvement!

Now, if I was you, I would leave the sub for now, and spend the entire £300 on your fronts, centre and rears. You say your budget is "about" £300 - stretching a little bit will make a big difference. I would suggest something like:

    Monitor Audio B2 fronts - £177
    Monitor Audio B1 rears - £135
Montor Audio BC centre - £115 All at hifi4less.com

Ok, so £127 over the £300, but this is a hell of a setup. something you could never get out of a satellite system. And you'll be surprised at the bass you get out of em. You could upgrade by getting a sub as and when you like.

Also look at similar setups from Acoustic Energy, Wharfedale etc..

    Hey
let me know what you get as I'm looking to get the 1705 amp and was thinking of the tannoy efx5.1, Elac cinema 1 esp or the canton CD1 package. Now I'm wondering if I should get larger fronts like the monito audio ones mentioned above. Must admit I like the idea of the sub/sat system, just depends what the trade off is.
    cheers
    DAve

If anybody is thinking of going for MS Premiere system, my 308 sub is now for sale in the classifieds section. It may work out cheaper for you to buy the speakers seperately

Alfelectronics are still advertising the MS Premier Plus for £299.99. When you ring them up they are £450 and £299.99 for the Premier version!

They are available at www.hificonfidential.co.uk for £369.99 plus £20 delivery. I tried phoning Richersounds to see if they would price match but they answer the phone then put it straight down before speaking!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know where I can buy them cheaper?

well I got to listen to the ms premier, for movies they were great but I wasn't impressed with the musical quality. They were hooked up to a denon 1905 and a pioneer 575. I'm now wondering if the problem was with the dvd player, would a dedicated cd player be better?

A CD player may make a difference but if you are talking about the normal Premiere system changing to te MS309 will make a larger one.
