    Hi Guys,

To complete my system I am looking for some fronts. My Premiere 302's will become my back surrounds. Have the 905i as centre. Can pick up the 904's for £139 or the new 902i's for £150. I know the 904's are floorstanders. Any advice on the subject???

    Cheers,
    Iain:cool:

I used to own the 904's myself as part of a surround system and they were fantastic sounding speakers, easily worth the money, i would pick these as the front soundstage will be larger, it depends if you can accomadate them in your living space.

You can get 908s for £299 from hifibitz (down from £499) ;)

At the prices you've given I'd go for the 904s.

Thanks guys. So even though the 902i's have newer technology you would still go for the 904's? My living space is about 4m by 4m and my present fronts are 3.3m away from listening area. The floorstanders if I decide to go down this route would have plenty of room to breath.

I'd guess the 904s would be best, out of your options.
The 902i go down to 55 Hz, whereas the 904 go down to 50 Hz.
As has been suggested, the 908s would be better, they go down to 35 Hz.
Bit of a jump in price, but you get another 2 * 10" woofers :smashin:
I guess you'd need a fairly meaty amp to drive them though.

I don't think the newer technology is vastly different, certainly comparing the 902 to the 902i, there are tweaks, but the spec remains the same.
Ed selley is the man to ask.

Why don't you got to Richer Sounds and have a demo? The centre is the most important bit, I'd for for floorstanders unless space is an issue?

The 'i' series are a considerable improvement over the older Avants so i'd go for a pair of 902i's - don't forget to budget for some stands.

I've heard the 902i's and 904i's and in both cases they sound like more "expensive" speakers than their predecessors, for want of a better description!

Detail is much improved, treble is smoother and they make the original Avant versions sound rather harsh in comparison (which they're not!). Bass is also much improved on the 902i in particular.
