Hi just ordered one of these to replace my little 42 watt Yamaha sub and have a couple of questions.

    1) What sort of difference will it make from the little Yamaha sub will it just be a power thing or will it actually sound better

    2) how would I best set it up as when my main speakers are set to large the xover on my amp no longer works so shall I set my speakers to small and set the xover around 80hz on the amp or should I leave the mains set to large.

    Cheers.

    1) I hope it will be deeper, faster and much more tuneful
2)An 80hz crossover point would be a good start but it would be worth tweaking from there. Keep the fronts to large at first to see what happens.

Heh heh, I think its safe to say you'll notice a big difference...

I just made the leap from a Yammy SW-P201 (100 watt) and am already noticing a huge improvement (haven't had a chance to run it in fully yet)

On the THX optimizer you get with some DVDs you can run a test tone sweep - with the 309 it keeps going lower and lower and lower...

When playing music, bass notes have less of a leading and trailing edge - i.e. they start and stop quicker, rather than sounding bloated and slow...

Oh and the notch filter really works too (had to spend £50 on an SPL meter mind u  ), its smoothed out a rather nasty peak for me!

    Hey,
I too have received one of these and i'm lovin it.
However it says in the manual that the line and high level inputs should not be connected at the same time.
Why should this be a problem? and what happens if i want to use the line level for cinema (ie the .1) and high level for when im playing music and stereo but want the sub to be involved as well?
    thanks, henry

That shouldn't be a problem as long as you're listening to music in stereo - as the lfe channel won't be being used, that is as long as you set your front speakers to large on your av amp...

you might want to check with tons of fun on that though...wouldn't want you to blow you sub!

hope you've got an spl meter handy for when it does arrive - it makes the process a damn sight easier!

I managed to get the overall sub volume right compared to my other speakers, but wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in hell of getting the notch filter setup without one...
