Am in the market for a new sub, in the £200ish range, to replace the passive attached to my denon 500 allinone. Was thinking of the MS 309, which seems to get good ratings around here, but have seen the Ruark Vita 100 for £199 on the BK site. Seeing as the Ruark has an rrp of £550 apparently, would it be a better buy for my cash? Or should I stick with the 309?

I'm new to the whole sub game, so any opinions would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

No-one has a comment? Or is the whole question just showing my ignorance so much no-one feels like lowering themselves to answer? :)

I don't think many people here have heard the Ruark mate, but I can vouch for the MS309, it is a very good sub.

Ruark have a good brand name, and their speakers are usually great, but until someone bites the bullet and buys one of these to let us know how it performs, or does a comparison, I doubt we will get much of a reply on this thread.

You could ask BK if you could try both and send back the one you don't like? :D

Heheh, thanks for the comments guys :)

I think I'll drop BK a line and ask how the Ruark compares to the BK, as both the BK and the MS were in the budget sub review on here, an answer might give me some inkling how they match up.

    Cheers for the opinions :)

The chap from BK just said the Ruark would be slightly less loud than the XLS200, confirmed it should integrate fine with my other speakers, and also sent me a link of someone saying very positive things about them on another forum.

I've ordered the Ruark now, so should have it in a few days, will post my opinion of it then. Although obviously I wont be able to compare it to the 309 then, as I still wont know how that sounds :)

    Cheers

Sounds like you made a good choice, I'm sure you'd have been happy with any of them as it was one hell of a shortlist to start with!

Wondering about lighting my BK now though. Shouldn't be too hard using some PC bits and I've already been looking at backlighting my TV.

Be sure to let us know what you think of it :)

the Vita 100 looks very very similar to the MJ Reference 100, especially as BK manufacture the amps for Mj acoustics.

Well the Ruark arrived today, looking forward to a chance to play with it later. Somewhat disappointed to note there doesnt appear to be the blue led lighting that was mentioned on this thread tho

Heheh, apparently the blue lights are only on the bigger Vita 200 model, and to be fair to BK, they dont advertise it as having them or anything :)

Oh well, guess I'll just have to rate it on how it sounds, there's a novel concept for a speaker :)

(And on 1st listen, it sounds very nice indeed)

Will post a pic later if I get a chance.
