Would the MS Premiere Plus package be a mismatch/not enough for the Denon 3802, with music and movies a 60:40 split...

my head is in a spin with all the options out there... some help would be appreciated

i have considered getting 902 avants for the fronts instead of the 302's that come with the package ...? would there be much improvement?

Upping to the 902's is an improvement for music and a small upgrade for films. The 3 inch and 5.25in drviers are designed to have the same tonal character as each other so they should match quite nicely. It isn't too big a price hike so you might want to try it on the understanding you can get a refund if it isn't worth it.

I have an unavoidable bias in this regard but the demo's we used to do at shows with the Premiere and the Marantz SR7300 (roughly comparable) sounded good and didn't embarress either component.

that's good to hear... just have to save my pennies and hope the deal on the premiere plus package holds till mid september!!!

do the 302's need a lot of space behind them?

I ask because i will have an odd room setup being that a computer monitor will be in one corner and bed/seat in the oppposite corner around 4-5 metres away...this means the surrounds will be close to the wall to be sufficiently far away from the listening position...

No they are infinite baffle and can go right against a wall if necessary. The 902 has a bass port and needs some room however.
