    Hi all

Can anyone recommend a good reliable program for viewing
mpg and avi files. It would be good if it could playback qt files
too ..but if it does mpg and avi that's fine.

I'm, using XP Pro, and normally use ms media player to view
mpgs, and I had to dowlnoad another program called Divx (i think)
cuz using ms media player it came up with and error msg like :
can't find codec ? to decode. etc etc And then i only heard sound.
So i had to install that other program to
, to view the avi. Now when i go back to ms media player I can
    view the file.

Is there a VERY good program that does it all?

    Cheers,
    Shaz

Well you need to install the DivX codec www.divx.com along with any other codecs you might want to use. http://www.doom9.org has a lot of information and also http://www.divx-digest.com I think.

I would personally use ZoomPlayer as once you read the manual and get used to the program its the best out there. http://www.inmatrix.com is the website where you can read/download the manual & program.

I think theres another player called rad player? which I use too ,as it supports subtitles.

Can Zoom be made to play quicktime movies?

I tried but it just gives an error, and there isn't an option tio add that media type.

QT movies are better quality than mpg files, so I'd like to be able to use Zoom instead of the QT player if possible.

    TIA

No quicktime can only be played in their so called 'player' which cant even do proper fullscreen.

Also I've found quicktime files to be rather massive compared to the higher quality yet lower filesize divx4/5 format.

Also Microsoft's own mpeg4 (media encoder 8) format is very good, come to think it most formats are better than mpg and quicktime..
