A buddy told me about mp3search.ru recently. I was obviously a bit suspicious about it (prices too good to be true normally are!) so didn't really want to give them my credit card details. So I opened a cahoot card account to use their webcard and guess what - mp3search.ru won't accept the webcard. Unless I'm doing something stupid with the web card it looks like they need full card details and I guess I'm just a bit too skeptical to give them that. I'll just have tokeep paying too much elsewhere!!

I've been using them for ages, I only use them as an alternative to allofmp3.com though. I find allofmp3.com has more songs, is better to navigate and also has on the fly encoding with lossless codecs. Every now and then mp3search.ru has something allod doesn't so I use that too, although this one has most of it's tracks as 192mp3's but it does have 99% of it's tracks for ten cents. I also love how, on both sites you can go back and redownload any of your previously bought tracks if you need to.

I've been using mp3search since February now and it's been 100% reliable, I paid in $50 using my credit card for paying in $50 I received a $10 bonus, of this I still have $51.30 in my account. I really didn't consider for a second about any security risk about using my credit card, personally I have a very blaisay (how on earth do you spell that?) attitude to my credit card purchases as Visa will cover the cost of any fraudsters that screw you over. So your safe to use them as far as I can see. I you need any more info just check out there forums http://www.mp3talks.com/index.php? loads of people on there have been using it for years. If you don't wanna go for it then do check out allofmp3.com this is a much, much bigger and more wellknown site which also exploits said loophole, it's 100% legit in that they won't rip you off and have even been given the nod by the BBC who investigated the site when it started to get bigger publicity when the Records Association of American tried to get them shut down.

The only thing i'm worried about is that Russian copyright law changes. If this happens then the site would get closed down (because it currently exploits a loophole) and at the rate I download songs i'm just hoping I don't get stuck with credit it my account if the site ever gets closed down.

Note of caution: please read the following thread!!

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234152

I fell foul of this site, and I think it installed something dodgy on my PC as a result. To ward against credit card theat, I cancelled my cards the minute I came to my senses!

    Please be aware!

I've been using allofmp3.com for a year or so off and on (yes I know it's not legal outside russia etc.. etc.., but neither is doing over 70 on the motorway!)

Nver had a problem in my life, I also used to work in IT dept. for the biggest UK Credit Card company and never once saw a fraud claim/overcharge etc.. from either allofmp3 or mp3search. saw many many from big uk catalogue store and electrical chains...

Like yer man said if you've handed details over to pay for services through a secure server and get ripped off VISA/Mastercard will cover it.

    Unlikely though

Point taken on the fraud issue.

But on the trojan issue (something definitely got implanted on my PC after using the service, and it took me ages to kill it!), and the unhealthy porn issue, I'd say that was reason enough to stay away.

    Maybe that's just me ...

I can understand everyones concern and it's right and proper to be circumspect however I have to say that I've been using both sites for quite a while without any problems.

I was obviously was very cautious initially but they had Paypal as a payment method so didn't feel too at risk. That option has been a bit off and on (on at the moment for Mp3Search) but when it's not available I use a debit card from what is basically a dormant bank A/C in which I keep only enough money to cover these sort of transactions.

Bear in mind also that usually you're not actually giving the details to the site directly but through a 3rd party financial entity. For both sites in question this is currently Chronopay which is a pretty solid and reputable Dutch organisation verified by Verisign.

But as in all things on the net, and in life itself of course, a healthy dose of caution is never a bad thing. :lesson:

As it would appear that this site is not exactly legal in this country I have to close this thread.
