Sorry, I know you've probably all covered this.

I'm looking for what can be best described as an i-pod for the car.

But obviously, you can't drag your desktop into your car's passanger seat to hook up the USB lead, so I'm guessing it'd have to have a removable hard drive (like the removable front panel on car CD players) which you can hook up to your PC, download the music, then take in to your car.

    Suggestions?

You'd think they'd be all the rage.

So many people have i-pods, etc. You'd think Apple (for example) would be making one of these to accompany the i-pod. Who wants to burn all their mp3s off their computer onto CDs, when you could just download them to the machine.

An opening in the market, surely?

    Hi

Do a search for Mstation - they are the UK badges SSI unit.

They also have open source firmware you can hack around with ;-)

They support up to 160gb sensibly...(they support bigger but speed is an issue..)

The mstation can be had cheap from ebay...

im sure thers a head unit from either sony or alpine that has a hard disk.
you just save the mp3's to memory stick/card and it slots directly into the head unit which saves onto the hard drive

My mate have some sort of set-up where he tunes his stereo to a certain frequency, which then plays the tracks from his mp3 player, I know he got the hardware on ebay for a few quid. If you are interested, I'll get all the details off him.

    Hi y'all,

What you need is one of these babies http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product.jsp?productId=2373
Don't know if it's available over here ? but may be able to import one.The good news is it won't need a power converter to use it as unlike the USA mains voltage all cars use 12v. Though there may be a prob if the USB cradle uses a mains adaptor, but usually it would be powered by the USB socket anyways.

Hope this is of help ?

    All the best.

    DOH ! ! ! try this link instead http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/ListProduct.aspx?k1=2&k2=5&k3=71&pr=1027

    WHOO HOO ! ! ! !
