Ive been reading away on this forum and realise that i should have ripped my cds in flac format but i havent they are all in mp3 (100 ish albumns)
Im not prepared to re-rip them.

I was going to buy a ipod 30GB but the guy in the shop said that the software with the ipod would transfer the mp3s i have into another format which would mean a further loss in quality. Is this right? If so would i be better to buy an mp3 player that allows straight transfer of mp3s?

Sorry im an ipod virgin

Nope. The iPod will take and play MP3 fine. Plenty of peeps rip to FLAC for use in their Slimserver and then batch encode to MP3 for their ipod.
