Hi All,

Looking for some advice from this knowledgeable forum, I've recently purchased my first house and am planning to move in to it within the next month when contracts exchange, the house is only about 6.5 miles from my current location so not to far away. However my main worry/concern is the best way to logistically package my tv for the move so that it doesn't get damaged,

I have the 82" Samsung and unfortunately no longer have the box due to the sheer size of it and amount of space it consumed, Ive looked and even spoken to specialist cardboard box manufacturers about having a box made but most of the ones online cant make a box that big (74" x 46" x 6"), the only thing ive seen that comes reasonably close is a box for a push bike though not ideal as im worried due to the weight 46Kg it would fall through the bottom of the box,

Has anyone had any experience moving such a large/heavy fragile item? or any hints/tips on the best and safest way to logistically do this, im going to get a professional insured removal company in to move this TV but im sure they would still want it to have some sort of packaging on it to mitigate their liability as much as possible,

any help/advice much appreciated

Does it have to be boxed? Could you not securely wrap it with quilts/blankets and stand it between two heavier items to support it. Not far to travel thankfully.

I was thinking that might be the best way to go, however the kicker is i dont have many heavy items as im literally moving from renting a room in a shared house to purchasing a 3 bed house,( i have a considerable amount of shopping to do) i have floor standers and a few other heavy items but not really enough to be comfortable placing it between that it wouldn't shift on a roundabout even at a slow speed :-(

A large piece of cardboard in front of the screen, and go to town with a large roll of bubble wrap :smashin:

Thanks that sounds like a good idea,
what about lying it down instead of standing it up? i understand this was a big no no during the days of plasma but modern tv's should be ok?

Since you have very little distance to move, and very few things to move from the sounds of it, definitely give the likes of Pickfords a call for a quote. They use the number of items and distance to move them as the main levers, so it may be cheaper than you expect, too. (and you may even find it cheaper for them to do the whole move, rather than specifically call in someone to move just a TV)

If you get them to pack, load and unload, it becomes their problem. I had a whole bunch of stuff I was concerned about with the last move due to it being fragile, or not having packaging - they have a whole selection of pretty ingenious packing materials and it all went off without a hitch.

The zero-friction sofa bags were my favourite - no damage to sofa or walls even roughly manhandling it down a narrow flight of stairs (and it made a right mess of the walls when it was delivered)
