My Mac Mini's internal drive is dying and I will swap it out for my reserve Mini.

My iTunes music is stored on an external 2TB hard disc.

How do I move the iTunes directory to the new Mini so it can find the music on the external hard disc?

    Many thanks!

Many thanks, sorry if I'm a bit thick, but I just want to move the directory as the music files are already on the external hard disc.

    If that makes sense?

You don't want to move the directory, you just want to tell itunes where the music is.

Itunes - Preferences - Advanced - itunes media location

Yes, but how will the actual songs/albums and artwork be listed within iTunes on the new Mac Mini?

If it's anything like on Windows, backup your itunes folder, then reinstall on the new device and substitute the itunes folder for the backup one. The key file is the itunes library file withing the itunes folder. It's this file that hold the location for your actual media.
    There's a great article here.
