Since getting my 65' DLP rear pro last year I have been hooked on watching movies in HD. The quality is gob smacking and it really does enhance a good movie. Here are few movie I want to see in full HD as most of the HD I have has compression or is only 8-12 gig and not 20 gig plus like HD-DVD or Blue Ray will be.

    Star Wars (all of them)
    Event Horrizon
    War of The Worlds
Batman (All of them inc. Batman Begins)
    i-robot
    Lord of the Rings
    Matrix
    Stealth
    Aliens (all of them)
    ID4
    Star Trek
    James Bond
    Black Hawk Down
    Thin Red Line

There are loads more titles I would like to see in HD. [IMG]

    Christ, where to start

Alien & Aliens (Rest are Pap :rotfl: ) Alien is top draw on DVD but Aliens has never been A1, hoping a HD version will eventually satisfy.

    Ditto:

    Star Wars
    LOTR
    Bond (Selective)
    Matrix

A few others that come to mind

    Lawrence of Arabia
    SPR
    Jaws
    Contact
    Gladiator
    Jurassic Park(s)
    Shawshank Redemption
    T2
Any Pixar film (hard to imagine that they will look much better than they do now!!)

I've got that too. Nice. Watched back to back Shreks last week and the picture quality is even better on those.

Would love a nice HD Toy Story 2.

What res is your DLP? I'm front projecting at 720p. 1080 front projectors are still a little pricey.

That trailer link that you used.

    Any more like that?

Do you know if more files will be added (most of them seem from a few months ago)

Watched a few and pretty good.

Can only play 720p at home though. Watched a couple at work, PC is a bit faster (about 3 Gig) but still struggles with LOTR 1080p though..

While it'd be great to see everything come out in HD, it won't be economical to totally upgrade my collection, so I've no intention of doing so. Some movies just won't benefit as much from HD (and the new audio formats) as others will, so I'm going to focus on those in my collection I think would be worth the dinero to upgrade.

Gladiator (Extended Edition) - oh, and make up for the current EE's DTS omission by including DTS-HD.
Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions)
    Saving Private Ryan
    Band of Brothers
    Black Hawk Down
    Die Hard Trilogy
    Indiana Jones Trilogy
    Independence Day
X-Men Trilogy (X3 will be out by then)
    Alien, Aliens (don't care about 3 & 4)
    Master & Commander
Pirates of the Carribean (and Dead Man's Chest, due Summer '06)
    Bourne Identity/Supremacy
Star Wars - all of 'em
The Day After Tomorrow (not a great movie, but would be incredible to look at)
Spiderman Trilogy (III will be out by then)
Jaws (if it could be cleaned up)
    Matrix Trilogy
    Terminator Trilogy
    Titanic
Pearl Harbor (see TDAT - forget the movie, just a spectacle)
    Gangs Of New York
    I, Robot
Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins (forget the other ones)

That's what I would be looking at first. It's not like it's every favorite movie in my collection, just the ones I think would benefit most from the HD treatment. There's other movies I love too, but don't know how much they'd add via HD eg Shawshank Redemption, love it to death, one of my top 5 ever, but it's character & story based rather than a visual/audio extravaganza. Ditto some of the older movies, don't know how much, say, Apocalypse Now would become better. Of course, I did include the original SW movies, but you can be guaranteed Georgy would gussy them up for HD regardless (for better or for worse).

the thing is though, what i've been wondering is, if the film was originally filmed with cameras that weren't high definition, digital, then surely converting it to a HD DVD, the picture quality won't improve.
It's like having a tape, and putting it to CD - its still only going to sound as good as the tape...? so surely only newer films will benefit from this - as long as you have a hi def screen, hd dvd player...$x,xxx amount of money later, its still the same film, albeit visually clearer...

Film has way more resolution than digital imaging.

Allow me to use a different analogy; the difference between vinyl and CD. Although CD sounds better on lower priced kit and has handling advantages, it remains a sample of an analogue signal - a sound wave. However the information is taken from the source it can only be matched not improved on and any conversion will result in lost information.

As for your final point; the 'silk purse' of resolution will never turn the 'sows ears' of poor story, wooden acting and my pet hate of 'crowd pleaser' (WoW anyone?) endings into a great film - no matter how good it looks.
