    Hi there.

I got PSM mag yesterday which told you how to rip your dvds onto the psp.

Ive been using DVD shrink and PSP video 9, and it work great, just the videos are far to many mb's

For example, i took a sketch from a bo selecta dvd that lasts about 2 mins, and was about 30mb's

Surely clips of this length are not supposed to be that big, or only 60 mins of video would be able to be put on a 1gb card.

Nope that file size sounds about right as I could only ever fit about 2 minutes of video at max quality on the 32Mb card but remember there are loads of different quality settings. Some settings will only let you get an hour or so on a 1Gb card but other settings will let you get 4+ hours.

Also, you dont need to use DVD Shrink, you can use just DVD Decrypter.
Set it so it outputs a single .vob file and then just load the ripped .vob file into PSP Video 9, choose the settings you want and once finished you will have a file ready to play on your PSP.

That sounds fine for the length.

Just as a trial whilst waiting to get a larger card I put 1 chapter of a dvd on the supplied 32 mb card. Used the default setting on PSP9 and the conversion came out at 23mb about 4m 40 sec of excellent quality video.
So expect to get full movie at that setting on a 512mb card.

You should be able to get a pull movie ok on a 512mb card, although some files are too large and need to be split in too, to watch a movie. I couldnt be arsed with deleting the first half of the film and then puuting the other half on, too much messing about. So I opted for a 1gb card and thats my advice to anyone who wants to watch movies on the PSP that they rip at home.

DVD shrink is top. A movie will (most of the time) fit on a 512mb card. Are you on firmware 2.0? if so use avc and you can get excellent quality with reduced files sizes from psp video 9.

    My own settings are......

    all on FQ-VBR q-scale 23

    res...
    320x240 for 4:3
    368x208 for 1:85 (16:9)
416x176 for 2:35 with a crop of 74 top and bottom

the file sizes fluctuate as using this your asking to encode to a quality rather than a size but most most (so far 20/24) come in at under 480mb.

its a codec that psp video 9 can encode to and that a psp with firmware v2 can play. You just need a profile in psp video 9 that uses a video settings mode of AVC instead of SP.
