You can now see why I’m constantly complaining about my iPhone 13 camera, the level of detail and sharpness on this and other movies is off the scale yet the phone images just looks soft. :(
There must be something up with your 13 Pro Max Luminated? Mine is amazing for sharpness, detail and overall picture quality and is certainly better than my old 11 Pro Max that my wife has now. Although that was pretty awesome as well!

alita is a good film imo

on your projector the answer is a lot better - i had a 55es and swapped it for an epson 9300 about 5 years ago and the improvement in all aspects of picture quality was very apparent so a move to a new sony or epson laser will be immense. a good demo is essential and ricky will be a very good choice of dealer

My wife said “where’s the sequel?!” 😁

Yes, Ricky has been a real good advisor over the years and we’ll definitely be going back to him. I’ve often given him a call during a lunchtime to chat about what’s new / interesting and how he’s getting on.

My wife picked Alita Battle Angel on Disney+, streamed via an Apple 4KTV last night! Played through our Sony HW55ES onto a React 2.1 screen it looked fantastic and the Dolby Atmos soundtrack was excellent. Not a great film I know, but I was impressed with the downscaling to the projector. Forgot to take any other pictures as this one was when my wife popped out of the room!
Very nice, it’s another level in 3D though 👍

I did take a pic of the image from the S&M disc projected from the N5 that I compared against an almost identical one with the iPhone 11 from the Epson 9400 and the Epson looks sharper in its image but I can tell you the detail on the N5 was off the scale by comparison in real life. I don’t know what it is but it’s just not as good.

The bottom is the iphone13 with the N5 and with my eyes the name on the building is not only Crystal clear but almost 3 dimensional.

Frankly my iphone13 is crap IMO and can’t wait to replace it in the future.

Another movie of the year for me with the 4k uhd blu-ray release of Singin in the Rain... yes folks this is a 70 ! year old movie and in technicolour and restored looks absolutely amazing ! quite an experience too ...we throughly enjoyed as family ... I am blown away how well this movie has been brought across in both picture on audio... being film based yes there is grain that forms the moving images and capturing with the camera does no justice.. looks so much better with your own eyes... if getting this please do get the 4k uhd blu-ray... we watched via JVC N7

Another film chosen by my wife last night on Disney+! Via an Apple TV4K and a Marantz 7012 / Rotel RMB 1075 power amp and Monitor Audio Silver Atmos system. We chose the IMAX enhanced version and it looked and sounded superb downscaled via an HW55ES. The bass was amazing and picture was very pleasing. My wife was very impressed!

i have an SR7012 and monitor audio silvers, no power amp though. I was initially disappointed with the MA when I bought them and now I literally hate them. I’d much prefer my old kefs back.

Oh that’s a shame Panman40. Our Silver RX8 floorstanders sound superb with the power amp powering just the fronts and a new C350 centre. Very clear, crisp and punchy without being boomy. They are well away from the room corners and side walls though. Audyssey on the SR7012 does a great job in our room as well. Even CDs through an Oppo 103D Blu-ray player in direct mode sound so good.

If your fronts are nearer the corners than ideal and according to recommended by the manufacturer I would try a pair of bass traps for these corners. My IPL Acoustics I built are closer than advised, this was suggested to me and it honestly works.

Just last week, as an upgrade over my Yamaha RX-V583, I bought and installed a Marantz SR7011 in my HT room - have run Audyssey on a 7.2.2 set-up and not really watched much since to have an opinion on it. First impressions are that the Yamaha had a 'punchier' sound with the subs kicking in harder (set via YPAO), whilst the 7011 seems smoother and cleaner whilst giving a greater sense of dispersion...............

The Batman on 4k uhd blu-ray via JVC N7 projector... gosh this movie is definition of dark and dreary by intent ! super tough to photograph as well with the camera.. so have tried my best... its an amazing enveloping and atmospheric sound track too as a movie not so sure overall. but still while a very long watch 3 hours ! its a decent movie :)

just to show how difficult to shoot...

if just point a phone at this and go click the below is what you would get...
phone does no favours (iPhone 13 pro)... blown out image in exposure, lot of noise and way out in colour balance
IMG_3812.jpeg

if just point a camera at this same scene below is what you would get ... camera metering blow out the exposure due to overly dark scene
025A7841.jpeg

when in reality below is how it should look ... once exposure is cranked back to suit...

Fantastic images of a superb film! Just to let you know that it’s watching this thread that helps to keep me on the straight and narrow. A large tv now would be such an easy option but this reminds me of how much (in many ways) I would miss. Thanks for helping me keep the faith!

Wonderful thread.

I’m smitten owner of a demo JVC N5 recently .…batcave not setup yet so this is on a grey painted wall lounge with white ceilings.. still throws a pretty awesome picture …. Apologies but my camera phone and skills isn’t great!

Get Velvet on the ceilings, walls and masking. Paint the wall white .. you will be shocked.

The N5 is superb but once I unlocked some of its potential with proper visual treastments - wow.

That will be the plan for the garage 😊… wife has let me loose on that room.

Shame its such a ball ache to get MVEL 22, have a few samples of self adhesive flock though, so whole room of that could be an option.

clocked up 16 hours on the lamp already, it is a superb bit of kit, its the dark scenes that truly kick my cheap projector to the gutter, although that’s still being used for YouTube crap that my daughter watches !
