I know this has nothing to do with movies, but I have a few decent UK Quads (40" x 30") that I want to frame, but I'm having a problem trying to find a store that sells frames for this size. Does anyone know of any sites or shops that stock anything like this?:D

Or buy a larger frame then have a custom mountboard cut at your local art supplies shop. We have a gallery nearby and they can cut mountboard at any conceivable size, so I got nice charcoal mounts for my posters and they look much better than if they were in the frame alone.

    Have you tried

    www.fastframes.co.uk

I used them a couple of weeks ago, admittedly for smaller frames (70 x 100) but found them good quality and quick delivery,

I colect vintage movie posters and after 10 years I still haven't found an off the shelf frame. Best bet is to shop around and look for bulk discount from local framers. Don't dry mount whatever you do tho!!!

    Cheers

Basically it depends on the value of your poster (or projected value). Dry mounting (i.er glueing of poster to a backing to remove creases) destroys any residual poster value. I have stuff like Raging Bull and Jaws originals which sell for £100's but would be worth nought if dry mounted. If you are talking about contemporary blockbusters not so much of a worry - though original Episode 1 and Matrix can already fetch a tidy sum. Drop me a PM with your titles and I can give you an approx value.

I've linen mounted or paper backed quite a few (conservation techniques - £££££!!!!!). I wouldn't suggest doing it on the one we talked about James 45. It will be fine as discussed. Of course then you need an even bigger frame! Anyone recc'd a good site (other than eBay) to sell some - Mods - if this was an out of order question..sorry!

It's a Jaws US 1 sheet which is a little bit smaller than a quad and vertical rather than horiz. It's folded and has a minor blue spot on the bottom so would need pro backing if you wanted the creases out. Looking for around £350. It goes for much more at auction houses and the main London dealer Reel Poster Gallery is selling a linen backed copy (lin or paper backing costs around £60) at £500
