I'd appreciate some advice about speaker mounting.

I'm not a fanatical audophile but I am looking for a reasonably nice sound for my home cinema.

Aesthetics and budget mean that I'm looking at a small speaker system like the Kef 2005.

The plasma will be wall mounted so that it is centred at eye level when sat down.

The centre will be below the plasma on top of an AV unit and the sateillites will be mounted at the corners of the square room just below ceiling level.

This means that fronts will be about 1.7M higher than the centre.

I know this is not ideal but what impact will it have. Is it something that only an experienced ear would notice.

I've considered mounting the sats lower or using stands but my wife isn't too impressed with how that would look.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Nigel

I have had to mount my front speakers quite high due to lack of space each side of the telly for speaker stands. They are not quite as high as yours by the sounds of it, but are still a fair bit above the television.
Not the ideal solution, but they sound really good.

I use these fella's by the way, and am very impressed with the sound quality.

You may have problems with any sounds that pan away from the centre as the difference in height between the centre and the main pair is quite considerable.

I know it's a cliche but you should try it out first before making any permanent installation as I don't thibnk that you would be happy - audiophile or not.

If you want to see what the sat speakers will look like mounted close to a plasma then take a look in This Thread as there are loads of sub sat packages pictured. It may help to show SWMBO how good it can look

    Dear Deidre
Oh how I wish I had that much room........:( :(
If I attached a piccie of my set up you would see the problem I have.
The only wall in my living room that would enable me to set my system out like those would necessitate me having to move a door to fit a settee in :thumbsdow

I would dearly love my speakers nearer the TV or lower on the wall but I've tried everything to no avail.
