have you tried locating the timber frame behind the plasterboard, this is what you will need to fix the mounting bracket on through the plasterboard.

You can get special plasterboard fixings. Unfortunately, most are not really strong enough for a large screen TV on a mounting bracket.

However, the safest way to deal with this problem is to find where the timber frame is in the wall, they should be at regular intervals, then screw a rectangular bit of plywood across at least two frames. It is then fairly easy to mount the television on to the plywood.

You can find where the timber frame is by drilling a small series of holes in the plasterboard. Alternatively, you can buy electronic stud finders.

I have just mounted my 26" Sony using heavy duty (large) plaster board raw plugs - I used about 14 screws in total, it ain't going anywhere.

Obviously fixing to a stud is preferable only my walls have the egg box construction so no studs! I would do the same with a 32" screen, but I accept no liability if you try and it fails!!

Get a 5/10mm sheet a mdf then fix to that.
That will do the job.

Like the above i would try using heavy duty plasterboard raw plugs and a sheet of MDF. Screw and glue the mdf to the wall and then mount the TV to the MDF. You should be fine.

You can't beat the first of the 2 screwfix products (choose an M6/M8 if poss). I work for a company that sells an identical product and I was involved with testing this product a few years ago for a new hospital that was being built and had this kind of problem. The fixings failed at an average 10KN (1 tonne!). Use 4 of these fixings and your TV is going nowhere, do not use rawl plugs under any circumstances.

I managed to find the vertical frame on my wall and and drilled in the two supplied mounting bolts for my wall mount - and to be honest that would have been enough? My 26" Sony only wieghs about 12 KG :smashin:

Just to be on the safe side though I bought a pack of HEAVY duty Hollow Wall Anchors from B&Q.

They cost about £6 and I used four.

I read somewhere that they're good for up to about 75 KG

Don't quote me on that though...

The screwfix plugs are what are typically used to hang radiators on plasterboard walls, so no problem with LCD screens.

Hi, I have bought some of the top Screwfix ones.

Do you think they will be able to hold a 27" LCD tv on plasterboard wall by itself?

TV weight around 18kg

Thanks in advance
