    Hi all,

I was about to order Moulin Rouge from the internet (plastic keep case) when I heard that there is a foldout cardboard version available.

Can anyone confirm this, or know where I can get it from?

    Cheers,

    Lex.

I think the Cardboard sleeve is available on the R1 version, but Beware There is a lip sync problem with the dts track on the R1 version.

Thanks Phil, but there is definitely a region 2 cardboard version (MGM style) - my friend says he saw it in MVC - their website only lists plastic however.

My God, I may actually have to buy a DVD from the High Street!!

We rented this title tonight, had to leave the room after about 10 minutes, utter garbage!! IMHO of course!! ;-)

I feel I am pretty open minded and enjoy most films, but this was just too bizarre and strange for me to endure.

    AndyP,

I have to say, that in my opinion, watching just 10 minutes of a movie that lasts over two hours, is hardly a way to justify slating the movie altogether!

I also think that you need to be a little more careful in choosing your movies, in the future, if this is all it takes to make you switch off. Surely you must have known the kind of film this was going to be, even if you didn't see it at the cinema?

Everyone I know, has said that this is not a normal run-of-the-mill musical/drama, and they would be right. I haven't seen the film yet, but would like to, if only to see why everyone considers it to be so unusual.

I would like to know what you were expecting, and what it was that put you off the film? Was it the acting, singing, music, direction, or what?

I don't want to sound rude, but I really do get the impression that you are the kind of person for whom if a movie doesn't grab their attention within 30 seconds, then it's automatically dismissed as being trash! If that is the case, then you must find it very hard to choose a movie that you will enjoy.

    Pooch

As a huge fan of the film (Oscars please - if not give 'em to Lord of the Rings....Beautiful Mind....get real(although, no doubt that'll win)), I was interested in the lip sync problem. I have the R1 version and have only noticed a problem through projectors with off board scalers. I've assumed this was more a problem with the DVD lip syns delay being incorrectly set. Did I assume incorrectly? I didn't notice any problems with a standard 32" TV. Has anyone else? Is the R4 better from this point of view? DTS tracks have often had lip sync problems but again, I've only noticed it on projectors with scalers, which leads me to think it's the lip sync delay on the DVD players. Am I wrong? (leading toward a completely new thread I think)

OK, apologies for my feet first comments! It was actually meant to be slightly tongue in cheek. I did actually sit it out for about 3/4 of an hour, before I made my mind up that it wasn’t my kind of thing. Her-in-doors wanted to see it so I thought I would give it a view as well, though I wouldn’t normally have made a point of watching it. I actually knew virtually nothing about it, as always with films I prefer to watch them ‘blind’ and make my own mind up.

I just found it too unconventional and strange, plus the modern music sound track and ‘period’ setting just didn’t work for me.

Hope this explains things! Sorry to all the fans of the film! :)

Hey, I loved the Phantom Menace, so what do I know??!! ;)

I think this movie walks a very fine line between being completely naff and being completely inspired.

Its so 'un-hollywood' for starters. The sets, the cinematography, the style, the singing.

Even if you dont like it you have to admire the way in which it picks up the movie musical genre by its testicals and drags it kicking and screaming into the new millenium. Following the success of this movie hopefully we shall see more inovative/creative movies rather than the standard hollywood recipe.

Take 1 A list celeb, add $100 million budget, spend $50 on advertising / publicity and stir in a comic book adaptation / remake for good measure. Ensure celeb is interviewed by every hack with a pen or a camera and then open in more screens than last years movie to show how much better it should be considered.

I rented the R2 version, and there was a problem with the DTS track on my system (see below), the DD track was fine.

Just to confirm - there is a serious lip synch problem on the R1 version (played on a Tosh 210E at least) which makes the DTS soundtrack unusable. DD sound OK though.

Hi, HAve you tried to watch the R1 DVD in NTSC?

The DVD is NTSC not PAL.

When i play it in PAL mode There´s the lip synch problem in DTS But when I Play it on NTSC mode The DTS soundtrack is excelent.

So beware if you do not have a NTSC capable TV, you will be unable to play it correctly because the sound and the image will not synch.

I Dont know why this happens but it does...

I wonder if T2 as the same problem...

I dont remember having problems but I will try my R1 copy and let you know.

    Bye
