I've got between about 60 and 100 quid to spend on a new motherboard. I'm not really that fussed about SLi or Xfire as I personally think its a bit of a gimmick unless you are using two top of the line cards. I'm going to be overclocking my processor to around 3 gig (its a year old so might be very clockable), and thats about it.

Basically I'm after a cheap card that makes the most of below:

    My set up:

    q6600 quad 2.4
    4 gig ram ddr2 800/pc2 6400
    sapphire HD4870 1 gig
    4 x HDD sata
    antec case + 500w PSU

The ASUS p5Q boards have been recommended to be - especially the pro, but at around 110 quid I don't think I can afford it.

The P5Q SE looks ok at 80 quid - ASUS P5Q SE PLUS iP45 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer

but I'm ultimately unsure why say a 60 quid Asus board is not good enough.....

Please! I know very little about MB, which is a bit of a hinderence!!!!!

    Cheers,

    Slightly off topic but...
    You're running 4 HDD and a HD4870 off a 500W PSU

Well not yet, but i was planning to. Its the one that comes with the Antec Sonata III case. Theres so much debate about what draw pcs take that I thought it would do.

Easily if it's a decent, branded PSU, total power draw for his spec at full load will only be about 400watts.
