    Hi,

Surprisingly, this is relatively easy to answer.

In most cases, the most expensive releases will be titles that are Limited Editions, from Region 1. If you look on E-Bay (as an example only of what some people are willing to pay for a rare or deleted title), then you will see things like:

Criterion Collection single disc release of "Salo: Or The 120 Days Of Sodom" going for about £100.

Criterion Collection of John Woo's "Hard-Boiled" and/or "!The Killer" going for £65 plus, each.

Practically all Criterion Collection titles will be being sold for stupid prices, if the discs are shrink-wrapped and unused.

Also, titles like the "Akira: Limited Tin Edition" can be sold for high-prices, if you find someone mad enough to pay such high prices for it.

Almost all Region 2 discs are worthless, as they are almost always mass-produced, and are almost always available in superior Region 1 or Region 4 versions.

    Hope that helps.

    Pooch

    Cheers...

Salo is one sick film...i have not seen it, but i read a review and have seen some screenshots - who would want to pay £100 for this is beyond me!!!

Evil Dead 2 - Army of darkness, the one with the gold cover i heard that goes for around £80!

Plus R1 version of halloween...i could be wrong on this though!!!

    What about Robocop CRITERION???

    Cheers

    Queens Greatest Flix 1 & 2.

First commercial DVD pressed in Europe (1997).
Limited edition, never released to buy.

Also much better quality than that Queen Greatest Video Hits 1 rubbish released last year.

Was the tin a European R2 release (IE Not UK)? The Film title was shortened to Amelie In the UK, thats why I ask.

Seven Samurai Criterion (1st issue). It's R0 and has a restoration feature on it. Was quickly taken off shelves and re-released as R1 & without the feature, is now like goldust. Fetches way over $100 on ebay.

    re: criterion discs

what fools r paying that sort of money for things like robocop (which i owned from new and sold for a tenner and counted myself lucky to get that) when superior, anamorphic discs with more features r knocking about for less than a tenner?

I've also seen crit salo for sale on ebay (especially .com) for about 8 dollars (final price).

When i've sold off my old criterion discs I've been lucky to get anything like a decent price for them on ebay. same with my old criterion laserdiscs.

r people just criterion completists? and paying imaginary prices for things that aren't really worth anything/collectable purely because they've been deleted rather than what they contain?

this seems similar to neo-geo videogames freaks paying vastly inflated prices for old carts and games u can buy second-hand on ps2 for a fiver.

    regards,
    anephric

    Thats ebay for you.

"If they are selling for that much, it must be valuable!" :)

I sure I remember reading about people selling pre-orders of Spiderman on Ebay, and they were getting the offers.

    I'm guessing...the height of stupidity? :)

great set only cost me 55€

Nah, Salo's a different kettle of fish - worth much more. He's unlikely to get a buy now price for Seven Samurai 1st edition at $170 (ebay link above). But could a few bids at £110-$120. Theres some crazy F*cks on ebay.

anephric - You've see a Crit Sale go for $8? on ebay?- it was a pirate surely.
