The fact that every car regardless of engine/spec sounds like a '72 Camaro having the knackers revved off it. Obviously the only engine effect that many studio's carry.

Got to be tyres squealing, even on those Merc saloons which have full traction control.

I reckon the tones used whenever someone presses a key on their mobile phone. I don't know anyone who can bear to have those tones on yet they appear with every button press in films and TV!

I haven't heard it in a while, but for decades the old Donkey Kong "jump sound" was used as the default noise for just about every representation of a video game in just about every TV show or movie.

Keep an ear out for it. It was used to a rediculous amount.

The dog barking with echo. It's in a lot of British and American series. It's even on Home and Away.

Bullet ricochet sounds (peeoww) even when they hit a soft target.
Eagle cry in so many open land areas.
Bigger calibre gun sound than the one being used.
Techno sounding thunder crash to 'sheewab' lightning flash...

That Squeaky door sound when anyone opens an old door. It's been used for as long as I can remember.
Also the warning siren that was used in the Goldeneye game, they're still using it in films now!
You'd think they could take five minutes to record a new one now and again.

if thats the one im thinking of then its the ones that they use in starwars quite a lot. When someone falls down a big pit or something similar it sometimes sounds exactly like some of the noises from the tie fighters.

There's one that really annoys me that they use ALL the time...it's a John Motson "eeeuaaAAAAGH" used whenever a fancy advert for football matches comes on TV, they mix it in with crowd noise as a goal flies in.

    Cartoons

That springy 'boi yoi yoi oing'(?) sound, used just about everywhere.

'Schreechy tyre' sound, you know what I mean :)

'Falling off cliff, Puff of smoke' sound (ala coyote in Road Runner)

I'm sure there's hundreds more cartoon sfx!

The one effect I've noticed in US shows and films is the two beebs or chirps from the car alarms as they are switched on/off, its the same time and time again.

They must fit all the cars in the US with identical alarms, bugs me to death it does.

    Klippie.

Not a sound effect but more of a short piece of 'incidental music'....

That 'wooden stick rubbing against a washboard'(!) sound used in practically every spy movie/TV series in the 70s and probably still used today!

Depending on when the TV Show/Movie was made...

in the 95-97 era they loved sharp computerised sounds.

Recently everybody loves false bass and silly sounds when people hit eachother...

That's why I can't stand the Blade soundtrack, sends subwoofers barmy whenever a kick/punch is exchanged!
