The most moving song sang by a character in the film?

I watched Shame last winter in an old theater in Paris with mostly young folks around. And when the scene in which Carey Mulligan did a rendition of New York New York came it was so quiet all around. There was a few sobs during the song. I think it has something to do with young Parisians' yearning to go to New York. Beautiful film. Beautiful cast. Beautiful scene.

Shame clip: Carey Mulligan sings New York, New...

Good film, quite enjoyed it... That scene for me though was rather drawn out. :boring:

Well performed though from Carey. :smashin:

The wife always has a little blub during the song 'Come What May' in Moulin Rouge sung by Nicole Kidman & Ewan Mcgregor. Have to admit it's a darn moving performance from both.

I havent seen Shame but I am sure that song would be very moving in context of the film.

Good thread, here are my picks (Narrowing choices to songs sang by from characters in the film):

    1: Jessie's song in Toy Story 2 :) sorry that should :(

Toy Story 2: When Somebody Loved Me.

2: Kermit's Pictures in my head

3: Feed the Birds - Marry Poppins

Feed The Birds - Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews)

    4: Baby Mine from Dumbo

    Baby Mine-Dumbo & His Mommy

Huh, seems I only like Disney songs, lol, ok...

5: Sally's Song from Nightmare before Xmas

6: Marilyn is through with love in Some Like it Hot (SPOILER ENDING!!)

Whitney Huston caterwauling I Will Always Love You should have seen me move to mute button:laugh:, Linda Ronstadt a far better version.

PS love Whitney Huston singing just hated that version.

I cant think of anything other than this Frank Sinatra song from The Jokers is Wild giving one of his best acting perfoemances.

Madonna's song at the end of "At Close Range"
with Sean Penn and Christopher Walken stays
with you for a while. When Penn is in the
courtroom on the stand and it takes him almost
a full minute, after a serious choke-up, to say
that Walken is his dad, then that song kicks in
    immediately. It's pretty powerful.

Oh great call, its not about how good your voice is, its how well you perform it! Despite Jane Horrock's incredible singing talents and mimicry in this film, Caine did the best number in the movie! :smashin:

    What a great thread.

I find Gollum's Song to be incredibly moving (although I admit it was a close call between this and Yub Yub from the final film of the Star Wars Saga).

Only thing is Quarry, Gollum's song is not sung by a character in the film, great song though, best one of the trilogy, Anne Lennox's Into the West was good but she hits the chorus notes abruptly and too hard.

Yub Yub is a nice addition though, didnt move me but made me happy :)

    Ah, I see. Oops!

Controversial, I know, but I found the new song written for the special editions to be more moving than Yub Yub.

    Philadelphia by Neil Young.

It plays out at the end of the film of the same name and I thought it captured the feel of the film perfectly and was put in at exactly the right moment.

I've always thought it was a far better song than Springsteen's Oscar winning theme tune, but each to their own.

Would have gone for that myself, but it's not sung by a character in the film is it.

    Beautiful song though.

That's what the OP's original post said...song sung by a character in a movie.

OK, how about 'The Rainbow Connection' by Kermit in The Muppet Movie (no, I'm not joking)

or 'Suddenly Seymour' by Audrey (Ellen Greene) in Little Shop of Horrors.

I just went by the thread title, I didn't notice it had changed direction in the OP.

Some great tunes in here though.
