I have just bought an 8800gtx and fancy throwing some challenges at it.
I have Oblivion so thats gonna be the first one, then HL2, followed by BF 2142. Anyone else recommend a challenge to throw at it?

Not played it on the PC, but the 360 version didn't really float my boat.

I've just upgraded to a 8800GTS. Just compleated Half Life 2 - Episode One. Not bad graphics, seemed very short, but I suppose it is an expansion pack. Hitman Blood Money is a very good game with pretty good graphics. Rainbow Six: Vegas is a good game and the graphics are very good. The graphics on FEAR are very good and the physics are the most impressive I have noticed in a game.

But for some reason I havn't really been blown away by any game I have seen yet. I'm hoping DX10 will give the 8800s a new lease of life and really start to show these cards off.

For now these demos are the best you can see on the 8 series.

Play with the zoom on the Adrianne demo and look at the face up close.

I'm very interested in other peoples opinions on what games can give my graphics card a good work out.

Medieval 2 Total War, when in battles, if you zoom right in, it looks almost as good as oblivion. Pretty amazing IMO.

I didn't think much of R6 graphics wise. Gameplay is superb though.

I liked Prey from last year. Very pretty game.

Episodes 1's good, just like an extension to HL without the beloved gravity gun that can pick people up. Shame it causes my pc to crash. Though maybe theres a fix for it now ain't tried it since june last year

I've recently re-installed Far Cry,having played it when it was originally released on far inferior hardware to my current setup. It was a stunning looking game imo first time around, but now I've upgraded to a Dell 2407 and an ATI X1900 crossfire setup it looks simply stunning!

I suppose it's a relatively old graphics engine now but it still stands up in my book as one of the best looking games around,i'll post some screenies later to support my theory.:smashin:

I picked up the box for Far Cry while in GameStation yesterday and was tempted. I'm really enjoying Half Life 2 and Counter Strike so this would seem ideal for me. I have also spent a lot of time playing Socom on the PSP. Far Cry was only £10.

How does it compare to any of the above?

I have to say company of heroes powered by an 8800gtx looks awesome. I love zooming in on a sniper hidden in a building as a tank shell explodes in his face!

I second that - even with everything maxed out the 'out of the box' Oblivion experience isn't a patch on the modded version.

oblivion..... is it loads of little patches you have to put on, or is there a 1 stop shop single auto exacutable which puts everything on for you and alters all the settings files / updates all the graphics?

Get ready for unreal tournament III :D :D :D

Hope its as good as UT2004, needs to have TAM though on UT3.

Flight simulator X will bring your PC to its knees, go to custom settings and make the draw distance as much as possible and making all the textures and ground detail to ultra high.

It also runs in DX9L, which is a watered down DX10 for DX9 hardware.

I had this problem when I bought my x1900xt. Really wanted a game to show me what its made of. Truth is, nothing will just yet.

For now though, I've got oblivion which is probably as pretty as it gets right now. R6: Vegas is a nice preview of the new Unreal Engine before its properly used. Company of Heroes in my opinion is absolutely stunning. The physics and detail of the battlefield are enough to keep me playing. Being able to zoom right in to an almost FPS style perspective of the battlefield without sacrificing detail is truly amazing.

Half Life 2 is always a standard for anyone to use. I'm sure Episode 2 will be even more stunning. Fear is ok but has a limit to what you can get out of it graphics wise. It looks as if the games coming out later this year are the ones to realy wait for. Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3 just are just a few.

Alan Wake for vista users looks phenomenal.
