I've just got a Thomson DHD4000 PVR and in an effort to get get away from VHS altogether I am looking to get a DVD recorder, which needs to produce rewritable disks that will play on a Compacks 5000, a Wharfedale 750 and a Playstation 2. Any ideas for a format compatable with these specific machines.

    Regards, Simon.

Checkout www.dvdrhelp.com which is a huge online database where people have stated the compatibility of their machines/players. As a general rule though DVD-R (a write-once format) is the most compatible by a reasonable margin with DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD+R all coming in about the same.

Depending on which of the 3 versions of the Wharfedale you have ,you may find it refuses to play any dvdr at all

Having checked out the link it looks like the wharfedale is probably not going to like any format as it is the original version, with the replacement chip to enable it to play Jaws. It does manage CDR's for both audio and video CD. Thanks for the replies.
