More UHD content coming from the BBC :)

    "Dear Audience Member

Thanks for signing up for notifications and expressing an interest in UHD programmes on BBC iPlayer.

We wanted to let you know that ‘Dynasties’ will be available in Ultra HD. The programme follows five extraordinary animals, each in a heroic struggle against rivals and against the forces of nature, fighting for their own survival and for the future of their dynasties.

    The programme page is here:

    BBC One - Dynasties

Each episode will be available to watch in Ultra HD after the programme is shown on BBC One, starting with episode one on Sunday 11 November at 20:30 on BBC One. Simply head to the homepage or search "Dynasties". You'll need to make sure your video quality is set to Best Quality.

More information can be found here:

BBC iPlayer Help - Can I watch Dynasties in Ultra HD?

    Thanks again for your interest.

    Kind Regards

    BBC iPlayer Support Team"

How do you sign up for updates on when the BBC will be putting out more UHD content?

God, now you are asking. It was ages ago and I remember it being very hidden away. Pretty sure it was an iPlayer help article that could then sign up to to get updates on.

Follow the second link in my first post to see if your TV/device is compatible and how to access it.

Is it definitely HDR as well or just 4K?

It’s definitely HDR as mentioned in the second link.

Interesting for me is the required internet speed to get the full fat 4K has dropped to 24MBit/s and only 12MBit/s for 2560 pixel Ultra HD. I think for the World Cup/Wimbledon they were saying something closer to 40MBit/s was needed so their encoding must have improved. Hopefully I’ll get the full 4K this time as I was restricted to “only” the 2560 pixel Ultra HD last time.

Excluded again. Would love to know what the decisions are, I assume it is my TV is a tad too old and they are not going to engineer the app for it despite it is already streaming 4K just dandy.

Hopefully this will be available through the Virgin V6 box as previous transmissions were.

Problem with iplayer beta as it won’t let me in, or there’s large demand

Only getting UHD on the B8. No HDR through the internal BBC app.

EDIT: Wow. Picture quality aside, this is breathtaking nature documentary tv.

I had the same issue, briefly started playing this last night on the B8 internal app and was only getting UHD, no HDR.

The ultra hd test footage found in the settings menu triggers HDR for me fine so don't understand why it doesn't with dynasties.

I am running the iPlayer Beta through the Shield, it does neither HDR or UHD. I will try standard iPlayer later today.

I wonder why the HDR isn't working on the B8 but is working on older LG OLEDs. Doesn't really seem to make any sense.

HDR for me also on my EZ952.

Spectacular picture....... when it’s working that is. Really annoying that I can stream 4K perfectly well on Netflix and Amazon with no dropouts, but on iPlayer it’s buffering at least a couple of times and needs a restart.

The bandwidth demands are still higher than Netflix and Amazon and of course it is a beta test still so can’t really expect a faultless service. Is your ISP Virgin by any chance?

Yeah fair enough. It has been a beta version for a long time though. I do hope we eventually see a UHD BBC channel, rather than relying purely on streaming from iPlayer.

I have Sky Fibre broadband not Virgin btw.

Just checked and am getting HDR on my C7. One thing i did notice is that the HLG HDR flag popped up in the corner of the screen as soon as the program was highlighted in iPlayer (when it starts previewing in the background), which was long before I actually pressed play. Is it possible you could have just missed it?

Hi, excuse me for jumping in but what does the reference to Virgin indicate. Ian.

In the BBC UHD HDR live broadcast trials during the World Cup it seemed to be a common factor that the people complaining of buffering and other issues were those with Virgin connections.

It was only noticeable due to the number of comments along the lines of "I have a 100/200/350 Mb connection so it can't possibly by a problem with that - it must be the BBC's fault".

If you activate the BBCi App on the V6 and put it in Beta mode through the Settings menu you will see a UHD demo of a football match which is excellent. During the World Cup and Wimbledon this was where you could find the matches. Sound and buffering was a problem initially but towards the end of the trial it seemed to improve quite a lot. To be fair I'm not a football or tennis fan so I didn't watch much. I've not seen any evidence of 'Dynasties' being available this way. The system would work with any 4k tv and was not limited to the BBC list. I cannot comment about HDR as my TV is not up to it.
