Here is the preliminary PDF for the 1098:

    RSP 1098

    Some features:

    1. You can set LFE (Low Frequency Effects) levels independently for each surround mode.
    2. You can set the crossover point for each channel independently and EQUALIZE each channel independently. Also, speakers can be configured differently for each surround mode.
    3. There is "on the fly" speaker level adjustment.
    4. The processor is Cirrus Logic's newest 32 bit CS49400. Crystal's latest 24 bit 192kHz DACs and AKM 24 bit/128x oversampling analog to digital converters. Burr-Brown OP amps.
    5. The 1098 will also be able to "decode any format known to man" (according to Rotel).
    7. There is a bi-directional RS-232 port.
    8. Four assignable 12 volt triggers.
    9. Eight assignable digital inputs.
    10. The front panel (tv) screen can monitor other sources besides what is currently playing.
    11. And, of course, we already knew about the four component video inputs.
    12. All channel audio delay that solves the problem of the audio being out of sync with the video on some video processors or scalers.
    13. On screen display of Component video output.
    14. Cinema EQ - which can be set to automatically engage (or disengage) for any surround mode.
    15. You can customize the volume to ramp in 1, 2, or 5 dB steps (cool).
    16. Change subwoofer levels on the fly and set individual levels for, Dolby Digital, DTS, and Stereo.
    17. 200 mHz Component Video Inputs and signal path.
    18. Multi-Source/Zone capable.

Thanks to the guys at HT Guide - Club Rotel

Won't use that LCD screen- bit of a gimmick if you ask me.

Are they doing a version without the screen?

Are the newer Rotels dead silent (no hiss/hum) in DD/DTS mode? I have tried a RSP-966 as there it had alot of hiss and hum, replacing with another two DD processors (Denon AVD-2000, HK ADP-303 removed the background noise)

Oh I can feel an upgrade from my RSP-1066 coming on. If it's expensive I could always sell my projector and use the LCD as the main display !

    Muhahahhaha, good idea!
I think it's pretty useless to put an LCD screen in a receiver. Sure, it looks cool, but it is of no use and only makes the device (much) more expensive! That's a real shame!
If you want a Mark Levinson of 20000 quid or something like that, well, then it's an option you won't really notice in the price. But on a Rotel? :thumbsdow

    Got this email from Rotel

I am afraid that it is still a little to early to confirm retail prices, availability and final specification. We were hoping to show the prototype that was used in Vegas for the Bristol show and also bring along with the answers you are looking for on some form of handout, unfortunately this will not be possible.

The latest information we have been given by Rotel Europe is that they are hoping it will arrive here around late April/May time, again UK price is yet to be confirmed.

    Best regards

IIRC, Philips did an A/V amp with an integrated screen in the late eighties.

In this case I'm guessing it's primary function is as a UI to controlling the amp but once it's there having something to monitor a connected source is a perfectly decent idea.

Could the screen also be used for DVD-A sound track menus so you don't have to turn on the TV et al?

    Hi,

I just read in a Italian web that the retail price will be around 4.000 €. I don´t know how much it will cost in UK (in pounds), but you can guess: in Europe the 1066 costs around 1.500 €, so the 1098 will cost, more or less, 2.5 times more that the 1066.

    Cheers !!

I has seen $3500-4000 CND which is about £1406-£1670.

I personally think it will be £1800 in this country but don't quote me :)

Never really got my head round the bass management issue personally.

Basically they way I see it is if listening to analogue sources then speakers get a straight through full range signal, rather than getting it messed around with by some dodgy bit of 2 pence electronics.

Obviously the multi channel input may be slightly more difficult, but I simply use the cross-over on my sub when listening to 2 channel sources.

I saw something similar on the Rotel club forum, one of the guys there mentioned about using a Paradigm X30 crossover, don't know how he tied it in though

    Regards

As I would use one for 99% HC the Bass Management problem of the RSP1066 would not bother me as its ok in DD/DTS

Bit of a bummer if they haven't sorted it out, I intend to use it 50/50 for HC and music and to keep in wife friendly I need it to be in as least boxes as possible without going the integrated route.:(

Oh well may have to be the Tag or Arcam route:rolleyes:

Sticker, hold on a sec, do not write it of just because the RSP 1066 had the Bass Managenment Problems does not mean that the 1098 will.

    Hi,
I wasn't writing it off, I was actually being sarky!!!!

The wonders of the written word;)

Seriously I can't wait to hear it and see how it compares to the AV8/AV32R. It will be interesting to hear fom the Americans when they get it on their views as it seems likely they will get it first

    regards
    John
