Guys, just a quick one for any sparkys out there...

In my kitchen i have a set of low voltage halogen lights (6), running off a transformer (in the ceiling).

I want to install an X10 Dimmer, but i have no idea if the lighting set i have is 'dimmable' or not.

If i fit the dimmer, what is likely to happen???

Will it just work/not work? or am i potentially making it dangerous?

Unfortunatly, i have no idea what the transformer is, or if its dimmable or not.

    Advice appreciated...
    Thx
    Kev

I have found that most "wire wound" transformers will dim.
So if you can get to the transformer and it looks large or heavy you should be ok.
Switch mode transformers are small and light.
These will not normally work with X10 dimmers as they actually work the same way.
They dim or stepdown the current by chopping off part of the voltage sine wave.(or so i believe!)
I think all that will happen if you try an x10 with a switch mode tranformer is either no light or a very intermittant flicker.

    I COULD BE WRONG!

So please only try it if you are sure it's a wire wound one etc.
