    Hello everyone,

I hope I am posting in the right place as I am new here.
This site seems a great place.
I've been reading the forums for a while but thought I should finally join up.

Like most people who are upgrading their Hifi setups, I have gradually replaced my mini system and wanted to get a good sound setup.

Due to my limited funds, I can't afford very expensive gear, but I do want to try and get something that atleast sounds good.

I currently have a Cd player and my Dad's old Pioneer amplifier and am now transferring most of my music to my PC with EAC as wav's and outputting via my m-audio soundcard.

I still have my old speakers from my old phillips midi system and they really do sound muffled.

I was orignally looking at replacing them with a pair of Morduant Short Avant 902 speakers but am now looking at the Mezzo 2.

I can't seem to find many reviews on these speakers so this forum is my next port of call. Does anyone have any views or info about them ?

I like the look of them and hopefully will hear them in action soon when I go for a listen at my local shop.

I'd appreciate any views on these speakers or anything else you suggest I should consider.

Many thanks for all your help.

the MS Mezzo's are extremely expensive speaker and seem completely out of proportion to the rest of your equipment.

MS Mezzo 2's typcially run about £450 per pair. That's not totally outrageous, but there are many other fine bookshelf speakers you can buy for £100 to £200 per pair including other Mordaunt Short speakers.

I think you need to give us a better overview of what you intend to end up with.

2 channel Stereo Amp or 5 or 7 channel AV Amp?

If you want an AV amp, then you are going to likely have to buy a 5.1 Surround system which will cost you around £1500 if you plan on basing it around the Mezzo's.

What is your overal budget for the project, and again, what do you expect for that amount of money?

    Thanks for your post.

I am eventually hoping to have all of my music sources to be either CD or Wav from my PC via the M-Audio soundcard I've put in.

The Pioneer amp I am using at the moment is quite old that my Dad gave me and it does the job, but that's basically it.
The speakers are from my old mini hifi system and although nice and loud, have no clarity and muffled bass.

I'm ideally looking to get a good setup so that is why I looked at the Mezzo's as I would then complement that with probably a new amp too.
The amp would cost up to about £400.

I can't afford much else and need to do it in stages as I save up but I thought I could try out the speakers with the amp I currently have and then eventually get the new amp later too.

It is purely a stereo setup. I don't need 5.1.

    Thanks for the help. :)

Mezzo 2's have not been sent for review yet, expect to see something around March-April.

i have the ms avant series which are good, but a friend recently bought the mezzo 6's for a stereo system, they are far superior to the avant series in detail, seperation and stereo imaging and are well wroth the extra money!! if u can afford to spend the extra they are worth it but make sure u get and a good amp etc to back it!

    Hi,

Just to let everyone know that the Mezzo 2's have been reviewed in this months (May) What HifiSound & Vision magazine.

    Price: £450

To sum it up they rate them at 5 stars. Good detailing of the sound, attractive appearence, and positive value for this kind of money.
Sound is occasionally too considered with some songs loosing a rough edge.
Overall, One of the most competent mid-priced speakers they've seen in a long time.

For those who missed the Gadget show review: It was quite positive... didn't see the complete review so can't comment on specifics...

The Mezzo 2 are now discounted to £289 from Richer Sounds, Superfi.
If you want to stream digital music from your sound card then you should consider adding Cambridge Audio DAC magic.
