Anyone have these? FYI each front speaker has a sub built into the cabinet going down to 30 hz

Worth buying? I'm looking for an equally music/film friendly system. This package looks great!

I haven't heard this setup with music, but for movies it is awesome for the money!!

I heard it at the Bristol Sound & Vision show earlier in the year, great setup.

And for £1600, it is a relative bargain :D

Kazman, is it fairly new on the market or has it been out a while?

Likewise, I heard them at the Bristol show and was very impressed. The mags also rated them highly when testing them.

For £1600, I do not believe there is a better THX select setup than the Mordaunt Shorts.

You could look at M&K's THX Select speakers, but I believe they are more expensive (I can't be certain on that).

Can anyone recommend an alternative full size speaker package for around 1000 - 1500 quid?

It was released in early 2001. The magazines took their time testing it because there wasn't that much to test it against and to be honest there wasn't a huge amount of faith in our ability to make it any good.

The awards came through en masse in 2002 :).

The benefits are that it is a 5.1 system with only 5 boxes and with the subs turned off, the fronts are a very well weighted set of floorstanders for stereo. The rears are brill (you'll see I own a pair) and throw out a huge amount of information. Additional centres and rears are available for extended surround.

little bit more than you said but this may be worth a look, especially if you take what you'll have to spend on cable into account.

The Q7 AV package is also a lovely set of equipment, very musical and great with movies.

I would love to hear this and the Mordaunt Short side by side to compare, I have a feeling that the Mordaunt Short may have the edge with movies, but the Q7 come up trumps musically. That deal mentioned above is a cracker though!!! It's almost tempting me!!!! At that price, I would probably say the Q7 is the better buy.

I (relunctantly ;)) agree that this one is a definate demo issue. Depending on the AVR choice it could be very close indeed.

Also a good package. Very accomplished musically and with films. It also leaves you enough money to replace the sub with a nice SVS or similar or alternativly buy a second sub:devil: and some speaker cables/stands/wall mounts. Then you have a full 7 speaker setup. :D

    All repeat after me:

I WILL NOT BE TEMPTED TO UPGRADE
I WILL NOT BE TEMPTED TO UPGRADE

    Update!!!!!

Richer Sounds are selling the THX package for £999!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.richersounds.co.uk/index.php?f=itemdetl.php&p=302240

Bargain!!!! If only they sold the rears seperately, I would have jumped at those.

EDIT: With this price, I'd say the Mordaunt Shorts are a much better buy than the Kef's (even if the KEF's are better speakers, they won't be £800 better). Just my 2p

I can't believe the THX package is under a grand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They won't have any left at that price! I won't be ready to buy for a few months anyway. The Q7s look bootiful with a capital B. Perhaps Mordaunt Short are bringing out a new THX set if Richer Sounds are selling them for this price?

Sorry to go bubble bursting but with Genie, Performance and an In wall series filling development time, we can't even start looking a 500 Series replacement until 2nd quarter 2005. RS obviously wants to get some people in stores on this one.

tons- how much of an improvment would the 506s give me over the 903's
i'm getting a new pre/power amp combo and want something better at the back.
My rooms 4m-3m and i have the 908's and a paradigm.
    dc

edit- also are they best on a side wall or rear?

maybe they're clearing the old Declaration 500 series, in a bid to then re-stock them with the Avant 500s?

Lovely sounding package though, and under 1 big one, thats one hell of a steal :D

There won't be a revision of the 500 series for a while (read ToF's post above), which makes Richers price even more of an enigma. They certainly shift a few at that price. I'm going to try and see if they will sell the 506's seperately at a few of the local branches.

A great deal, the 506 has a real bass response on its own so not only throws out a great deal of information but over a wider response as well. 2x 506 is in driver area equivelent to 4x902's (with an obvious reduction in cabinet size). I think you'd find it worthwhile. I do warn you (and Kaz as well I guess) the known stock of cherry 506 now officially stands at 0. If they are out there they are now at dealer level.

They aren't very imaginative but some of the bigger stores might be up for it.

I was at the sound and vision show in manchester last year the setup was very good however i do remember the guys from MS who had done the setup had to use a couple of extra subs to even out that particular room (which was a large room divided with a curtain)

Any ideas as to whether the MS offer is instore as well? And are any available?
If there are, would anyone want to split it with me? I would like the floorstanders, not the rest.

Wow! Thanks for that. Will call them up tomorrow to see if they will give any more discounts on it!
Any ideas as to whether this would be better than the B&W 603S3? I have a pair at the moment and am very impressed with it. Moreover you can get them at about £540 (£600 - 10% discount), so it would be useful to know how it compares.I would primarily be using it for music, with the odd movie thrown in.But if they are that much better than the 603S3, then I can maybe switch to make the Mordaunt Shorts the main movie watching speakers.

Freely available- we've never stopped making them.

That would be me. Hotel conference rooms are generally ghastly for decent bass reproduction being large, high ceilinged and fairly concrete in construction. We're so used to standing wave issues, we almost always take a 909 with us to ensure that we get a consistent performance across the room.

And that Discount Electrical offer is a blinder.
