Richer sounds & Peter Tyson have a great deal on the Mordaunt Short Premier Speaker package.

Does anyone have experience of these? or, possible any recommended alternatives?

I'm looking for a 5.1 speaker system for living room (have separate HT room) to go with Pioneer 565 and a "to be purchased" Sub £300 AV Receiver with 5.1 inputs for DVD-A/SACD.

Main use TV/SKy, DVD-A/SACD, CD listening & Kids' DVD.

    Any opinions?

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Thanks for the info on the Tannoys, are we saying here that the Tannoy package is better than the Mordaunt Short package?

Seems a great deal on those Tannoys but so long as I keep to around £300 for the 5.1 I'd rather get the best I can.

Allternatively, would I be better off with 2 sets of Mission71i's, M7Ci and a sub for around £130? Total would be just under £300 from Richer Sounds.

The M71i's didn't look very good quality finish in the store tho'

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Thanks for that review. Those Tannoys look very "plasticky" to me. Good for the money tho'. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Anyone heard the Mordaunt-Short package I mentioned?

    Cheers,

    Mark.

I haven't heard the whole package but I do have a pair of 302's as my rears and they are very good. There's a good review on this package here. Do a forum name search for 'tons of fun' for more info on MS products as he is the main support for MS speakers.

Do you know....If I'd keyword searched for Mordaunt and not Mordant I'd have had a lot more research done before starting this thread:blush: .

For me the appeal of the MS was that they seem more of a "real" speaker. I have no WAF problems as my wife has given up complaining about all the hifi now the Celestions A1's, A2's & Kef Refs have gone from the living room.

OK, gleaned from the excellent links suggest by HD.

Tannoys = Plasticky/Tacky looking but cheap and good performers.

Kef Eggs 2005 = Too much money and centre channel clarity issues (something I'm sensitive to).

Canton CD-1 = Lack Midrange but bargain at the price.

Mordaunt-Shorts = Seems to be better sound for the money and weak sub.

Really good sound is more important than speaker looks (though build quality of Mission M71i's put me off) , particular with DVD-A/SACD so I may keep trawling the classifieds for a bargain setup for now and keep checking the RS & PTyson pages for a to-good-to-miss bargain at the same time.

    Thanks,

    Mark.

They do look great, however again thay are "lifestyle" speakers. Doesn't this invariably compromise sound quality for a pretty design?

    If not they'd be ideal.

    How much are they BTW?

I've never even heard of Canton before my posts of yesterday.

    Thanks for the help.

    Mark.
