Hi all,

My current rig is as follows :

5820k OC'd to 4.2Ghz, single 980GTX, 16Gb RAM, 1tb SSD plus 3tb WD Black.

16:10 aspect ratio is pretty important to me, productivity wise.

I currently run at 1920x1200 and can run pretty much all games at max/ultra settings without problem.

I am thinking of upgrading my monitor to a 30" 2560x1600 (mainly for the extra real estate for work).

However, how drastic would the effect be on my gaming FPS ?

My current fave games are : Project Cars, Assetto Corsa, Dragon Age Inquisition, Tomb Raider, Alien Isolation, Far Cry 4.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Personally in your position (depending on budget) I'd be going 4k, though I'm not sure how many have 16:10 aspect ratio at the moment

2560 x 1600 should be fine, but 4k with games like Dragon Age Inquisition you would be sitting at around 25-30fps possibly lower and the GPU would have to be going all out.

Ok - well 4k isn't needed at moment so you think I won't notice any real world difference between 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 ?

The increased resolution will obviously decrease frame rates but a 980 shouldn't have any problem maintaining a good frame rate with this increase. should be able to sustain 60+ FPS

For the real world difference I think you will notice.

Going 4k gives you some future-proofing though. In a couple of years when top end cards can handle it easily you'd then be looking to upgrade the monitor again
