Hi could I use a cat 5e cable to connect my amp (Sony strdb1200es) monitor out (composite) to the same input on my plasma ( Panasonic th4270px) I was going to upgrade amp so was going to use the hdmi cable but that'd been put on hold and all cables are in the wall and all I have is a spare length of cat cable.

Should of explained this a bit better it is only for on screen menu to be used.

So i was hoping to connect a wire from the cat5e cable to an old scart cable then connect the other end to the composite monitor out jack on the amp.

would this work

was going to point out you might need to consider audio as well but davepuma's link covered that

Thanks for the replies but i think i will need to leave it then as its only to get the set up menu on screen i thought i could just connect a single strand from the cat 5e cable to the centre pin on the composite output jack and the other end to a stripped down scart lead (don't have a composite in).

Oh well i will just keep using the amp display panel

composite cable is supposed to be 75ohm terminated i believe, also you'd need to connect two lines, one for the signal pin and one for ground
